the experiment with using flashbacks as a lesson review seems to be going well. the anticipation of being within eyeshot of eldest/estranged son for the first time in 4 years is still spinning the not-so-merry-go-round but treating them like a lesson review feels far more productive than beating myself up to repress the memories harder. repression is hard work. just ask your favorite political tyrant.
the gentle leans into the flashback daisychains has lead me to another body of group therapy discussion in the 90's over "the w.a.r. syndrome." the name for ^it^ was provided by an episode of the then popular "dinosaurs" t.v. series. this episode, to be specific for those of you who aren't in touch with 90's network tv. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0560707/
in this group therapy series, "the w.a.r. syndrome" referred to the dysfunctional need to be right in all things. i suffered the syndrome so badly that i would gladly disagree with myself for the sake of winning an argument. this recall launched from the flashback series where es was only 30 something and giving me his toxic mom awards. i didn't argue with his judgement. i just let him vent his rant and took my toxic mom awards to my therapy support network using skills i learned during that w.a.r. syndrome series.
i'm not sure what i'm reaching for here. just reaching. . .
again i leave the mood icon on the rapid cycling median. i am fine. how are you?

Once again I've had a fever today. I'm not going to the hospital because that's a huge waste of time but I did schedule a dr appointment for Wednesday afternoon.

My dad was always right. I only wish I was. Does that make me worse, better? I don't know. But thank you for the tag for the syndrome. And I did know about Dinosaurs, but I hadn't watched it.
I never know what I'm reaching for. Maybe, like some ancient ape, I'm just trying to see if stars feel as pretty as they look, without understanding what it would do to touch one.
Sorry about this reply. I slept too little for too long now. My neurons fire strangely.
the w.a.r. syndrome still runs through my family like a bad gene, but addressing the syndrome in my own strictly personals has helped ALLOT.
love the acronym for "fine." it fits my own case.
Facing these situations takes so much courage
More than I have I think
Big hug of support and a blessing
Watching that last group's WAR behavior clued me in about how we grad school students as a group self select in bad ways as well as good ways. I was really lucky to have my therapy sessions available to me every week so I could process it all and not get drawn in to the silliness myself.
It's really smart of you review this way before your crucial meeting with your adult son after all these years. Looking forward to hearing about how it applies in the real world situation when the times comes. Sending you support as you prepare.
Black and White is Black and White. Bringing up the past in a sense of flashback doesn't solve the present moment nor does it justify wrong done to either we, are, right party but when black and white is involved judgment shouldn't be denied nor delayed but granted in order to advance for a more just and fair world. F.Y.I. an experiment on a Family Care Plan includes the primary person, the mother.
Law and Order/Black and White
yup, academia thrives on the w.a.r. mentality. i was working in wildcat engineering rooms during and the phenom verily defines the high tech world. my apps are smarter than your apps, etc., etc.

i solidly agree that the w.a.r. syndrome is a dualistic thought process. either/or, thou hast been judged in the court of superior logic. i don't get to control other people, but i can work to keep my own judge's robe and gavel in the closet.
in my own family care plans, the mother role/responsibility alters considerably between 18 and 43, even when the adult is 100% disabled. that phenom gets downright dangerous when the adult is violently disabled. a 12 year old in a violent adult's body is not safe for geriatric bones.
