With me, confronting is better. I know, because repressing and denying and dissocation and disconnection worked for about, oh.... a few ecades.... In which I had anxiety, unexplained nightmares, blah blah blah.
Now I confront them and it sucks. But it sucks like getting a splinter out right away instead of hoping it works its own way out. They never do, in my experience. Just fester.
So for me? Confront, not deny. Hurts more short-term. Works better long-term. And all that short-term hiding/repressing? Wore me out long-term. Now I'm thinking long-term healing despite short-term really-hate-it.
If that made no sense, I apologize. But I am glad you're sticking with the therapist and still getting some help:-)
