I spent most of last year writing my first novel. I really made an effort to hit almost 51,000 words which is a novel but not too long. Querying often felt traumatic because I'm rejection sensitive. I know I'm supposed to not take it personally, but 80 rejections is a lot! So tired of the phrase "not quite right for me."..
I was trying to query agents but a publisher caught my eye on Instagram and I finally got a yes. The publisher has given me a release date of next summer so I'm kind of holding tight and won't hear much from them until the editing and publishing process begins in about 5 months. It's exciting to sign a publishing contract. I'm kind of freaked out in a good way, but I worry if it will cause controversy because it deals with drug addiction and Communism and one of the characters is loosely based on someone I knew. My husband doesn't think I should worry though.
im mostly ok still dependent on otc sleeping pills but my antidepressant has been very successful for me.

Once again I've had a fever today. I'm not going to the hospital because that's a huge waste of time but I did schedule a dr appointment for Wednesday afternoon.
when it comes to selling books, controversy is a good thing. enough so that i wonder if you should start a campaign to get the book banned shortly after it is published. just wondering.

And, I think in a world where phrases like "guilty pleasure" and "frenemies" are (or were) common, a little controversy often increases a books appeal, to both/all sides of the issues..
If you're worried about the fact that one of the characters was "loosely based on someone you knew", I think as long as the publisher knows about it they would've mentioned if that was a problem. I've never written a book, but I think if we were all prohibited from writing about characters that were anything like anyone we'd ever known nobody could write anything.
