I've been upset to see images on tv of the hurricane that hit San Juan, Puerto Rico head one, but I've gotten openly angry at the second earthquake in Mexico this month. I spent part of my elementary school years in Mexico and I have taken a group of students to Mexico City as part of my job. Now in late life I'm planning to retire there, so I've been to Mexico this year 3 times and plan to go back for Christmas.
So to see people in Mexico City on tv scrambling to try to pull kids out of a school house that collapsed yesterday pushed me beyond heartbreak into rage. Over and over these volunteers rushed in to dangerous rubble to rescue a kid to cheers and applause. Then the sign for silence--and upraised fist--went up so rescuers could listen for the cries of another kid to rescue. Then they dug, rescued, and cheered again until the upraised fist signal was given once more. Over and over, doggedly.

Having PTSD myself since I was a kid in Latin America, I know that even these rescued kids will have a long road to recovery. I have tears of anger in my eyes as I write this for both the living and the dead. How long, oh how long must people suffer this? It's been 2 earthquakes now in just one month. God, what is going on?

Once again I've had a fever today. I'm not going to the hospital because that's a huge waste of time but I did schedule a dr appointment for Wednesday afternoon.

I find myself staring at the news coverage and thanking the powers that you had already came back before the first earthquake.
Then also the tropical storms....Maybe the powers that be are trying to ask the same question of us. "What's going on?" When the foot is stomped from not paying attention?
I accept that there are geological conditions that have extreme cycles naturally, and that a plate moving in one area of the world will bump and send shocks to other areas. (3.9 earthquake San Bernadino CA., )as happened here just hours after the second EQ in Mexico.
I don't really believe that God by any name is targeting any area, but the world is changing and things need to be adjusted as much as humanly possible.
A rise in water level and temperature means that areas supported or close to it will feel affects. Warm water is not as dense as cold water, and has a higher volume, even mixed with sand. So lift?
The what to do? is complicated, but prayers for those in the midst are free.
Prayers up.
J.
Sorry to hear it is triggering you
Thirty some years ago, almost to the day, 5000 were killed in an Earthquake.
That the death toll from this earthquake is about 5%...that's huge progress.
That very elementary school had an earthquake drill that morning. I listened as one kid describing how the drill helped him get out.
What I see is man learning how to build safer buildings, kids learning how to react, a whole community coming together to help those in crisis. (Link is in Spanish, but it just the slideshow shows people coming together.)

Beautiful. Humbling, Awe Inspiring, Beautiful.
Things will always happen. That's a given. Death is the one thing guaranteed to us all. Between life and death is what's important. Who we love. Who we're kind to. What we devote our lives to making better for others.
Global warming is going on I have no doubt..... There are areas, regions that are known for natural disasters that seem to happen on a fairly regular basis.... I personally wouldn't intentionally move to one of these areas.... Yes things can happen anytime if God says the same however I still would be thinking of these possibilities going in..... There may be a better place for you muji..... I would hate for anything to happen to my friend
My heart breaks for all who've been affected and who's lives have been devastated .... It's gut wrenching to see what people are having to deal with as well the animals and the land....... Gentle hug.....xo
Mexico getting hit Twice with earthquakes. What is going on? I was watching Mexican news before & crying ..... with those children & just everybody.
I thought about you too Mujica & how you frequent there & everything.
Reaching my hand out to you in solidarity this triggers me too to be honest
Many Prayers for all
((((((((((Gentlest of hugs)))))))))))
Still, what I'm hearing from my friends in Mexico is that the irony of the date is bitter for them as well as having 2 in one month is bitter, too. It's a bit much to take. I appreciate your thoughts and prayers, truly, and I'll pass them along to my Mexican friends.
Some Amazing Images shot afterwards:

During the days following the quake I was glued to the news watching inspired how volunteers dug 11 survivors out of the Mexico City school that collapsed in the earthquake. How people cooperated when the upraised fists signal for silence was given by the volunteers on the rubble pile so they could listen for tapping or calls for help from survivors, how people pitched in make human chains to deliver water hand to hand, all kinds of great ordinary heroism.
The News is my favorite English language news source in Mexico, and now it's added PTSD education to its earthquake coverage, which I find helpful, too.

Hurricanes are awful too but generally there is a warning and time to prepare. I know parts of central/east Canada have earthquakes too, I have felt 2 in the last decade. Not very strong like out west though.
Trust yourself, you will know where to retire.
