It's pretty severe the case I have...considering I'm easily traumatized and it lasts forever!!! I don't know if there's anything that can help..except maybe if you have the chance to recollect yourself after a trigger before having to deal with the next client. Possibility??
wish you all the best!
If people are talking loudly and laughing, it reminds me of the parties my mom used to have that would lead up to family violence. I feel distressed when people are having loud, jovial conversations and I'm not a part of it.
If women are gossiping in a low voice (i.e. whispering), I find it distressing. It's almost like they are preparing to come after me and physically hurt me. I know they're not and anything they are discussing has nothing to do with me. I was bullied in school.
I have to turn up my music so I can cope. I sometimes have to leave for a quick walk. I can't focus.
These are just a couple of examples.
I have to disagree with what your therapist is telling you because it sounds like you're working in an abusive environment. It doesn't just bounce off, but rather remains in your head for the rest of your life. Have you thought about seeking a job elsewhere? Also, Christians talk about putting on the suit of armor when they leave their home, but it is an armor of God. God protects.
