I have always had trouble sleeping/nightmares/flashbacks since I was raped and I thought it was just par for the course. I have recently realized though that a major trigger for me is actually sleeping in a bed. I was raped by my (at the time) best friends husband, in their bed. Every night, if i do end up falling asleep, I wake with nightmares/flashbacks after only about 2 hours of sleep. I have been put on literally almost every sleeping medication there is and nothing helps. I feel very defeated by this trigger. I have been able to work through a lot of other triggers and although they have not gone away I can manage them so much better now. However, I have no idea how to work through this one. I have been working with my T on this and agree with her that trying to sleep on the cough and/or anywhere other than a bed is probably the best thing to do for now until I can begin to work through this trigger but I do not want to do that. I feel like I have changed and given up so much to triggers/fear/anxiety that this is just something I am not willing to budge on. I know that there is no "normal" but I just wanted to feel like a "normal" person and be able to sleep in a bed without this trigger.

Once again I've had a fever today. I'm not going to the hospital because that's a huge waste of time but I did schedule a dr appointment for Wednesday afternoon.

I'm not sure how it would work for your back long term but you could also hook up an indoor hammock and try that. I've heard some people say they love sleeping in them.

Also, there are foam bed wedges that contour to your body.

Here's another wedge. I used it to elevate my legs after back surgery but it might help you too.

Also if you haven't tried it, use scented oils like lavender in your room. Lavender is very calming.
I have a suggestion that is unorthodox. How feasible it depends on your circumstances and your comfort level.
Go camping.
And when you're camping, sleep on a camping mat or the bed wedge. Or even a hammock. There are hammock tents that people use that look pretty cool.
Sleeping on a completely different type of material and in a different environment, plus being out in nature to recharge and get a break, may help.
It's not a long term thing unless you really like it and want to go all mountain woman (which honestly sounds awesome) but it might help at least give you a break from the stress of this trigger. If you have a yard you can do it in your yard or rent a campsite for a weekend. You can check out campsites on Airbnb or look up whatever campgrounds are in your area. Or if you have a close friend, with a yard, make it a camping slumber party. Roast marshmallows, tell scary ghost stories, the whole 9. It may sound silly but it could help. PTSD usually leads to isolation so being around people we trust who understand makes all the difference.
. When you return, you can try rearranging your bedroom, using a wedge or hammock or other alternatives.
It might be worth experimenting with. Set up a sleeping arrangement in the living room, the kitchen, the patio (if you have one). See what works. Good luck. I hope you get some sleep soon. I
So, don't push yourself to do something that your body is shouting at you not to do. Find a comfortable couch or recliner in another room for you to sleep in. You can always go back to your bed when you feel strong enough.
I understand !! I really do.
