The power of a good therapist
Up until about 6 weeks ago I was in psychodynamic therapy. It was becoming too prescriptive and unhealthy for me. I am now with a new therapist, who asked me if I wanted to do trauma therapy. It feels like serendipity, I couldn't believe my luck (I found her via the internet)
She is validating me so much, my traumas, and how they have impacted on my life, and continue to do to this day. She is normalising me, saying these early traumas would have profound effects on anyone, its not down to personal weakness on my part. That's one that's going to have to be continually chipped at.
We are doing a time line next week, and whilst it scares me witless, I am looking forward to it. A nightmare I had yday didn't distress me as it usually would. I hope I am one new ground, albeit tip toeing.
I can't believe how far I have come in the last 4 weeks or so. I now sometimes believe I can do this, even with horrifying memories. Its not just restored my faith in other people, but in myself also. The sad part tho knowing that this can all change on a dime. But I must try and hold on to my faith and belief. Things can improve, I can heal.
Has anyone else had such powerful therapy?

Hiya My internet is changing today and I'm not sure how long the switch over will take, I'm hoping 24 hours at the most, but I'm probably being too optimistic We are changing to another company and going full fibre for the internet. But at least it's changing to the one payment rather than the payment for the home landline phone and a payment for the internet. So I'm not going to be on here...

Name something you hated as a kid that you love as an adult.

Good therapy can make such a difference. So good to hear success stories here too.
I've just started with a grief counselor. My second session was last week and we did body centered therapy. I left that day feeling peaceful. It felt good. The pain and heaviness in my chest from anxiety lifted for a bit. I could breathe!
The heaviness has returned but I think with practice (like yoga!) I can alleviate some of my pain. I have some hope.
Wish you continued success and I'd love to hear more about how it goes.
Then I happened like you to get a therapist like yours. In my case he was a VA trauma therapist by day, and was good enough to take me on as a patient in the evenings. WOW, did it change my life. So glad to hear it's making such a positive difference in yours.
I am happy to read the great impact it is having for you
As great an impact as a good therapist can have, a proactive patient who takes their healing seriously is even more important. Yup, it sounds like serendipity has arrived. Do that do, Grasshopper.
Yea, it can change on a dime, but this time I will quote Martin Luther. "If I knew that the world would end tomorrow, still I would plant my tree today." Carpe diem, Grasshopper. Seize the day and appreciate it with all your heart and mind.
To answer your question, yes, I have had such powerful therapy. Seems to me like I go through phases where pieces just start falling together and random dots with my madness start connecting to make pictures that actually make sense. Some of the pictures are even far more beautiful than I would have thought possible.
P.S. In case you don't already know, "Grasshopper" is what the Zen master called David Carradine in "Kung Fu."
