My first tech use of "Troll" happened in 5th Signal Command school in 1973. The Army was still using point-to-point networks on antique WWII teletypes and once an hour we needed to "Troll the circuits" to be certain all of them were still on-line. That meaning remained valid in my tech career until the WWW explosion in the late 90's. I still do not have a meaning I can trust for the internet trolls. Leaving etymology aside for now. . .
During my current crisis, I have, as usual, been finding myself being curt and even cruel during unguarded moments. Have I discovered my "Inner Troll?" Sincere question. I really am confused about just what "A Troll" is in the contemporary WWW usage.
Is there such a thing as an Inner Troll?

Woke up feeling very emotional and about to clock in at my place of employment. And can't place it all in writing but not been a good experience with my store manager or his boss. Defamation of my character is a concern. I've been losing appetite and weight. Trying to perform at work to keep myself from hospitalization as a result of toxic masculinity.

I have parts who prompt me to blurt stuff out that is going to ruin relationships. They want to keep people at a distance. Maybe I could call those parts inner trolls.
I understand though feeling angry..... you wrote Arf 'in my current crisis'.... Maybe it boils down to the crisis you've been in ..... Anger is a secondary emotion caused by something else.... hurt, fear or frustration so lashing out is understandable when you're in a crisis mode
Big hug of comfort for you.....xo
Guess it is time to quit waxing nostalgic over what it USED to mean? I kinda enjoyed "Trolling the Circuits," '70's style. I miss that jargon almost as much as I miss the 20th century meaning of, "Failure to Launch." Failure to launch was, far and away, the more versatile of the two out-voted meanings.
Sigh. . . Life goes on. . . It is what it is, whether I understand it or knot. . .
Back in the 60's, when everybody was trying to shove me into big hair girl-molds, I loved my troll dolls with a passion equal to how the natural girlie girls loved their Barbies. I even made them clothes and accessories. How would I have dressed the Trump Troll? Can I just treat him like a Barbie Doll? I am not sure I am ready to confess what I did to the Barbie Dolls I got for my special day presents. . . Some things are too personal for sharing, even in my peer support network.
