Can you call your surgeons office and let them know about this.... Perhaps they can schedule for the first of the day or reschedule you for that??

Is there any drug that is used? I will be under full anesthesia as I tend to wake up or shake in the middle.

Beside the PTSD, just knowing one has to have surgery is scary often times. I can understand why you would be worried about this. I am not sure if I should reassure you or what. My experience with many surgeries (mine and loved ones) is there is no smell of blood in USA hospitals. But as far as your triggers, maybe consider writing down how you feel and what you are worried about. Do this daily each evening before bed. Wishing you the best.

I've got outpatient oral surgery tomorrow, Thor. Your example in posting here for support for it is something I'm going to follow. I'll be on top of sending support for you, too, when your time comes.

Thanks all for the reply. I will talk with the surgeon about being first on the OR table. I will also ask about some calming drug before being taken back. I will push the TDoc into working on this before.

Thor, following your example in posting here for support got me through my outpatient surgery this morning. It was gnarly, and I'm sore and in recovery right now for a couple of days. But it worked to get support from here for it, even at the last minute. Your posting here in advance and talking with the surgeon in advance, all of that's good preparation for this. I'm looking forward to being part of your support system as your surgery approaches.

I'm getting through day 2 at home of post-op recovery OK, thanks to you. Some gauze and hydrogen peroxide is involved, but it's mostly more benign than I expected. Day 3 ought to be better, and then I have the ok from my surgeon to go back to work on Friday.
