Snitched on to my VP again-twice in a week
mujicaptsd
Monday my own department's chair went to my college VP to reconsider her July 16h support in writing for my trip to Uruguay to a university conference next week.. With help and support from here at DS PTSD, I withstood the 11th hour idea that my time of for my trip may be withdrawn. It wasn't in the end, and I was glad I kept my cool as it was resolved.
Today I was called in to the office because a chair of a different department went to my college VP AGAIN, this time complaining that I was asking colleagues to cover classes for me while I was away.
When I was given support to go on the trip to this conference July 16 my department chair ordered me to find people to cover my classes, so I only did as ordered. I've gone to conferences before; it's normal to do that as our professorial responsibility.
Today I was reprimanded for it, and my Chair "helped" me by canceling my classes instead.
What the *&%$?
Are they jealous I'm going on a big trip or something? I kept calm, but I walked away with my PTSD hyper vigilance amped up high.
I only hope my VP isn't taking this seriously. He didn't call me in either time I got snitched on by either department chair this week. When I saw him after the first snitching, I apologized for whatever it as I did and he said "not to worry, you're not a problem child."
When I went to apologize to him for this snitching number two today, he said "if I were you, I wouldn't be all that apologetic." So I have some reassurance that at the top he's not buying into this snitching by these department chairs. But it's getting annoying. I can't wait to get away on this trip.
We have an all college meeting to kick off the school year tomorrow, and I have to see all of these people. I'm venting here so I act professionally rather than act out like a fool like we're all trapped in some nightmare episode of pettiness on the tv series The Office.

Once again I've had a fever today. I'm not going to the hospital because that's a huge waste of time but I did schedule a dr appointment for Wednesday afternoon.

Vent away, muji. I don't think anybody will snitch on you here. I don't think... Here we snitch on ourselves.
When my Hubby's old boss Rabid Ferret had a problem? Oh yeah, that was her MO. Run screeching about "This person doing this is making OUR lives HORRIBLE how DARE they" and she'd scream it at the person! So there's my Hubby, one of a handful of male employees in that particular building, fell victim to the Bit*hy Gossip Mill---"Oh he's always out of the office!"----Yep, Rabid Ferret screamed at him in front of *everyone* and then forbid him to leave the office between opening and closing hours.
Hubby said numbly, much later, at home, "I was at a business lunch my supervisor approved!"....
My guess? If they've got manpower issues---not enough profs for the classes, perhaps---someone's just trying to find a convenient target and pulled a Rabid Ferret.
Be at peace, dear friend. You are officially Innoculated against Rabid Ferrets. *poof* There. Magic INnoculation done!
OK, that was silly, but it always made Hubby smile....
Fill your heart with the peace of a quiet night, reading a good book or watching a funny movie, and we've got ya:-)
Hugs,
Leo
It does get my PTSD hypervigilance thing going But you were right, last night it was time just to think about something else. So I watched an old episode of the West Wing, where fictional politics rose above this real world office politics silliness.
We are the smart species on this planet, though, right? And colleges are where smart people make other people smarter, right? (Chuckle. I know the answers to those rhetorical questions, but I still thought it was worth bringing them up for irony.)
If there is a God, She is very patient with our pettiness, isn't She? I'm lucky the VP's got it figured out, too, so there's my gratitude list's start.
In my spiritual delusions, I imagine that God sees her colleges full of academic geniuses in similar ways that I see my genius grandson.
Be patient, muji. We are all works in progress.
P.S. My favorite definition of genius is, "You agree with me." Girl, howdy, he is challenging that definition daily. Just like his daddy before him... Sigh. Can we find another way to keep it interesting?
