I have a service dog as well. I save her life and she saved mine. I rescued her from a family who was starving there litter and even more the ones they were having trouble selling. They were keeping them in deplorable conditions. I had only ever had one other small dog up to that point but I decided that I was going to get her. I paid them the money an ran. She is a chug. She is part Chihuahua and part Pug. At the time when I got her I was at a point where I was able to train her myself to do most everything I need. She took the test and we were good to go. Even though when I got her I was particularly found of Chihuahuas I still took her and I love her as much as any big dog I ever had. Although since I have had her she and I have both had some trauma because the place I used to live had the biggest drug raid this state has ever seen and it was right next to me. Our apartment doors were so close together that we experience it all the flash grenade and the bartering ram and all. The sound all all traumatized us both. She bit a hole in the box spring of my bed and hid under it for three hours and when she came out she stood at the top of the stairs and barked for three hours and even I couldn't comfort her. It was much more involved than that for me as you can imagine. I was lucky and my partner called my therapist and she happen to be free and she talked to me from about three hour. Three hours seemed to be a theme for JuJu and me but we made it out and three days later she passed her test to be a service /therapy dog. She was able to do both even the noise component you have to pass. She was just shy of six month old and I was one proud mama. As a result she has ptsd and anxiety from it all but we are a good match because I am someone who understands her and she understands me. I couldn't part with her for anything.
AS TO Whether you can do fundraising for your dog on this site I don't know but some of the older members here probably know the answer to that and may even tell you to look up the DS rules about that. I know that you would lose some anonymity doing that which you might not want to do anyways. So end result is I'm not one to answer that question.

You'd have to consult DS higher-ups directly about fundraising here.

Have you considered crowdsourcing on Kickstartr or similar sites? Ask the people training the service dog for you---they may know. Also, just local fundraisers at a church, school, rummage sale, whatever---if you have any supportive people who might organize such a thing for you, that can be effective, as well.

My service dog is keeping me alive. She is my saving grace. I rarely go out; and live alone----so she keeps me company all the time. I find that I can ground myself (when feeling fear, or after night terrors) just by petting her silky hair.
