I was happy to find that this year the anniversary passed without my notice for the first time. But it seems like it was only delayed, as it seems to have hit me a couple months late. It was like as soon as I realized I got past it this year, it hit me. So that's what I'm dealing with today. It's not the whole of my story, or even the whole story of that one incident. But it's enough to give an idea of where I am today.
I'm just a ball of tension and irritability, and snark. And while I quit smoking years ago and rarely if ever drink, I am craving cigarettes like nothing else and keep thinking about being really really drunk.
I'm literally twitching with tension.
I hope that you can get through this in a healthy way.
What have you tried in the past in terms of self soothing strategies?
Yours is a profoundly awful story.
I've had my issues with the "law enforcement" or "justice" system, too.
That whole notion of "the ones who were supposed to look out for and help us ....."
Mine comes from that place, too.
It adds a special layer of shock, awe, and misery -- maybe not unique in trauma survivors, but ... it sucks either way.
Keep writing, if it'll help.
Get some gentle exercise, if you're up for it.
Put on your favorite music or funny movie, if you can sit still for it.
Read a book that takes your mind to beautiful, wonderful, faraway places, if you have such a book nearby.
Take a Benadryl, if there's no medical reason why you shouldn't.
Have some herbal tea.
Take a hot bath -- preferably with essential oils -- something relaxing and calming.
Try to avoid taking in too much information (you know: the electronics stuff -- news, and 'hard stuff'), if you can.
In other words: think about doing anything and everything that you're up to ... to make it an All About Annie Day.
Horrible story.
Sadly, you're in good company around here. LOTS of horrible stories around these DS parts :-(
I wish you peace, health, and strength.
When I was a young adult I got abused by a community of people that I thought were trustworthy, so I know what it feels like to be treated like trash for no reason.
We can't forget, but we can live on and make a life for ourselves. The memories are so hard to take, it feels to me like it just happened recently even though a lot of time has passed. It's the same for me, you never know when it will slam you again, and then you have to relive it in your mind once again.
