q: how do you know there is a female musician at the door?
a: she can't find the key and she never knows when to come in.
as an aspiring female musician in the 70's and 80's, i heard this joke far more often than any of the boys in the band had the opportunity to tell it. how do you know you are talking to a groupie hunter? he loves to tell this joke, among other sexist classics. it translates into my female music as, "the door is locked, the key is hidden and nobody wants me to come in."
i still practice music therapy with live instruments, but it has been 30 years or so since i have been near enough to any music scene to hear this or any of the other jam session classic jokes. my feminist translation of this particular joke has come to be a definition of social anxiety. why can't i join this, that or another social group? the door is locked, the key is hidden and nobody wants me to come in.
reality checks requested. am i making sense?
in my current day realities, i am currently trying to establish social circles in a new area with a radically changed lifestyle --from contented retiree to parenting 3 young orphans. my social anxiety has me paralyzed. i am wondering if i have found yet another psycho snot knot to let me know my social anxiety is rearing its ugly head once more. ply therapy tools here.
thoughts and personal experience welcome. unsolicited advice tolerated.

Once again I've had a fever today. I'm not going to the hospital because that's a huge waste of time but I did schedule a dr appointment for Wednesday afternoon.

That sux that you're experiencing so much anxiety Arf
I have never been able to really afford specific therapy for trauma... I use medication
I don't know if that might help you for really crippling anxiety??... I know that you don't like to use medication regularly
Sometimes meds for a few days may get you back to a calm state perhaps?... Big hug of peace... xo
my anxiety isn't so crippling as to need drugs right now. when i keep a mindful daily inventory and ply therapy tools as needed, the anxiety is still there, but quite manageable.
the door is locked and nobody wants me to come in. . .
Big hugs <3
around the time i abandoned the music scene, i took the advice of a much respected therapy peer. "don't spend so much time staring at the closed doors that you miss the doors that are open."
i kinda like the places my music has gone since i stopped playing musical politics.
