Really depressed

Ever seen Frozen?


Elsa tries so hard to has everything under control and be who everyone expects her to be....


(me, trying not to show the world I have anxiety and depression issues, among other things)


She keeps people at a distance to keep them safe

Anna tries to tell her she’s got her back, that she doesn’t have to do this alone and when she finally gets it, Disney doesn’t explain! Everything is magically fine. “Love” melts the ice. Is she loving herself? Loving others? WTH!?!!?


 I don’t get it. I have heard people tell me that I don’t have to do this alone, but I do because people don’t get it, support groups aren’t supportive and I don’t even get it! 


In case you can’t tell, there’s a little anger there. One of my kids threw up 8x yesterday. ER says hydration is fine and prescribed Zofran around the clock until appetite returns. On FaceTime tonight the whole conversation was “I want my mom.” So this day sucks. I’m cleaning and disinfecting everything and noticing how lonely loneliness is. The people I don’t shut out shut me out

Im very sorry That things are so hard for you tonight, but it is good that you can get out some of your anger here at DS in your post. It is hard to always be on edge and pretending we are better than we are because we dont want others knowing what we struggle with. Gentle hugs while you work through these heavy emotions that are weighing on your.

I have to confess that I haven't seen a Disney film in decades, so I don't know anything about Frozen. I never had kids, either. I can only imagine how stressed out I'd be in your situation, though, Marah, with a little one in such distress over and over 8 times calling out for help. Sending you all of my support tonight!

Yeah, I was told that too. Then everyone that over the years that I had helped...all disappeared on me.

Lonely...yes. I don't know if it helps, but I do understand

Oh and Frozen is based very loosely on Hans Christian Anderson's The Snow Queen.

Apparently Disney has tried for decades to make a movie out of it, but never quite got there. For Frozen, they drastically re-wrote the entire story, including killing off Elsa's parents in the first act...because what's a Disney movie without the parents dying? (Think about it...)

Anyway, love defeating the ice shards of evil in her friend Kai's eye and heart...was part of the original story, and all explained there. Gerda and Kai's parts were changed from next door neighbors & best friends to sisters. And Elsa was given magical powers in Frozen, that in the original she never had.


The Snow Queen is one of my favorite childhood stories. At first I didn't like Frozen because it's so different, but now it's grown on me. Both stories are basically about the power of non-romantic love, never giving up and have female character's doing the rescuing.

Marah, we have not shut you out. There are times I isolate, but then, I again reach out to people. Sometimes they will surprise me by reaching out to me. It takes time to build friendships. It begins with companionship, with shared activities. Arranging playdates might be a beginning. Talking to parents at playgrounds might be another. Inviting a church friend for coffee or lunch may be another. Find a Mommy and Me class. You can build relationships. I know you can do this. Comforting hugs.
