Sometimes news items about PTSD get my attention such that I want to share them here. Two popped up today that I think are worth notice. One is that I heard a podcast by comedian Pete Holmes interviewing musician and actor Henry Rollins. Rollins talked about his PTSD and how he has coped with it successfully to still be able to function to have his career. You may or may not agree with everything Rollins says. It even sounded like he's not officially diagnosed or treated. But it was refreshing to me that PTSD and coping with it was being discussed positively at all.

On a less refreshing note I noticed today that former US House Speaker Dennis Hastert got sentenced for abusing high school kids. As a survivor of abuse when I was in school, I noticed he wasn't convicted for the abuse, but for mishandling hush money in a cover up attempt. It made me sad to note that we live in a society in which mishandling money is more important than mishandling humans. If anyone knows of a lobbying group that is working to change those laws for us, let me know so I can contribute to them.

Thanks Muji, I haven't read/listened to the Henry Rollins one, but Hastert, I agree, and I also think back to 10 years ago when Hastert was Speaker when then Rep. Foley was involved in the page scandal and Hastert tried to cover it up...and at the time it was reported Foley was in the caucus concerning missing and exploited children..that just makes my blood boil, and I remember back at that time thinking why does it seem like Nothing is being done!! I don't understand how politicians can live with themselves, do they have a conscience?? I wonder, but eventually it came out...Foley left..Hastert left and joined..wait for it...a lobbying firm...uugghh and uugghh!! It is tragic how young men were abused and too many years have gone by to do anything, I too would support changing those laws!

Oh my gosh, cheese, I'd forgotten about Foley, Hastert's pal in this sort of thing. And yeah, Foley committed the ultimate hypocrisy by posing as an advocate for exploited children. Ick!

I'm serious, if there's a true lobbying group out there advocating for us, I'm ready to contribute. I'd hope they're introduce legislation to do away with the "statute of limitations" on rape. Those of us who have survived sexual assault know very well time alone doesn't heal all wounds. So the perp should be subject to prosecution as long as he or she lives, if you ask me.
