I have a hard time taking sick days. My mom had a mental illness called Munchausen Syndrom by Proxy (MSbP). While my father was away working 28 days out of 30 she got male attention from the family doctor by hurting me or my sister or making one of us sick so she'd have an excuse to see him. That added to my PTSD from beatings, being molested, and combat (we lived on the mission field in a war zone overseas), so I got to where I didn't like going to the doctor for any reason.
TRIGGER WARNING
When I was 9 years old, I was away at summer camp and on a hike I fell off a bluff and broke my leg. I hobbled around on it for a day and didn't tell the camp counselors because I was afraid they'd hurt me more like my mom did to get more attention from the doctors. The camp counselors saw my broken leg and got me to a hospital where I had a cast put on. It was great; all of the other kids signed my cast. But I still lied and told my camp counselors fake contact information for my mom so they couldn't get a hold of her though they tried and tried. It was so that she wouldn't come make my leg worse to use the situation for her mental illness. When I got off the bus back from camp and she saw my leg in a cast, boy was she mad.
I got really sick last night, wheezing and taking shallow breaths, so after teaching classes I went straight to the doctor. Acute bronchitis, they said--like I had last December.
The doc said that this time I should stay home tomorrow and take a sick day to give the antibiotics a chance to start working better. So I called my boss right there, from the doctor's office, to take a sick day.
Big step for me.

Once again I've had a fever today. I'm not going to the hospital because that's a huge waste of time but I did schedule a dr appointment for Wednesday afternoon.

i know it was really hard to do it, but i'm so glad you got yourself to the dr and then too, that you did take on that bully of a boss to let her know you'd need a sick day.
rest well, Professor xo
Your an inspiration to us all, There are people who use their sick days for no reason, and then there are others like you who would die before using a sick day. You have had this before so you know how serious it is. I am going to mother hen you, come on now take care of yourself. Rest, chicken noodle soup and take your meds. it takes three days for meds to start working. if I knew you I would bring you a batch of homemade soup, it's the best. THIS TIME OF THE YEAR IS TERRIBLE FOR PEOPLE WHO HAVE ASTHMA, OR CHRONIC BRONCHITIS. OOps, sorry caps.!! writing in the dark on lap top.
So take care of yourself, I demand it. You have helped me out in the last couple weeks since joining, so get some R & R okay.
it sucks that you had a horrible childhood, if you ever want to chat you know where I am. Take care big hugs Casey
My mother would never have crossed the Legal Line. But boy, do I relate to that. After my divorce, I wrote up medical POA papers naming my ex husband to make medical decisions for me if I was injured and couldn't do them for myself. From my earliest memories, I've tried to stay the hell away from her when I was sick.
Once at home, I was in the master bathroom and she was in the kitchen. I was sick and fainted onto the floor. I couldn't feel my hands rubbing my face. I'd been throwing up and was terrified of throwing up again because at that point I couldn't turn over.
I called my mother. Then begged her to ask the next door neighbor to come over who was a nurse. MarySue's first impulse was to call 911 because she said that I was blue. My mother's impulse was to give me a shot of brandy to "revive" me. I was 17. I took some in my mouth and tried to let it run out the sides.
Thankfully I was babysitting that afternoon. Older kids, I was there to make sure that they Literally didn't burn the house down. I was about the only babysitter that they hadn't scared off and we had a good relationship. I knew that they'd actually take care of me. Isn't that a weird thing, a 9, 10, and 12 year old kids being more adult than my mother?
For 30 years, my mother never forgave me for asking for MarySue.
I agree that you should take a few days off to just rest and let the antibiotics start to do their thing
Your boss will never worry about taking care of you.... You really need to ya know and I hope that you will..... Good job by seeing the doctor so soon and taking today off
I have only seen one case of Munchausen's .... very disturbing.... I am so sorry that you went through something so awful by someone you should have been able to trust
My heart and prayers go out to you.... Big squishy hug and a blessing.....xo
