Tho' in my case, I'd be overjoyed to just get any damn pain med, since pain and PTSD don't mix, but hey....
A lot of people who are active addicts turn to opioids and benzos precisely because of that effect---the damper of emotions, particularly the strong anxiety type ones.

Got to be careful with those, self medication is a huge problem with PTSD.
But you don't want to go down that route of addiction.
Better to do other things that make you feel like that... Like yoga! : )
Then the downside of addiction became apparent. Tempting as they are, they do more harm than good in the long run. I've been really careful with them because they do tempt me as they work in the short term. Then comes the long term and, well, addiction is totally as bad as PTSD and adding it you have 2 big problems, not just the 1st one. I can only handle 1 at a time, myself. I had a close friend who tried to handle the 2 at once and I was a pall bearer at his funeral, for real. Really taught me a lesson in my life.
The drugs themselves are nice.
Getting off them is a great way to lose a lot of weight in a very rapid fashion, along with sweats, chills, barfing, and a bunch of feelings slamming into you at once...
...my fianc, prior to becoming my fianc, fought heroin for 3 years...and it took a horrid case of food poisoning at the very last.
(He was too sick to make it to the dealer's without his butt exploding, and the guy does not do house calls...and don't think immodium helps, nope, uh-uh..)
