And ... if you're on this group ... you're working from way behind.
It's a process. It's a long and difficult process.
Somebody, or several somebody's, or .... life ... took something from you -- something very precious. Maybe your "sense of self."
For me, getting that back is more important than any other single task.
I need to get back to being comfortable in my own skin. If and when I can do that, I'll begin to open myself to other friends, friendships, and relationships, again.
For now, though, I'm a bit checked out.
I wish you peace, health, and strength.
I mean who know what their criteria for who they like is??
I know almost everyone likes my most abusive evil sister because she has the FAKE, hypocrite thing going down packed..
I have to use some of the self-talk I learned in therapy about going from victim to survivor to thriver to put it in perspective. And I have to be kind to myself about it, not beat myself up about it. It's just the way I am as a survivor, and I'm the one who's learned to live with it gradually better over time to learn to thrive sometimes, too.
Now it doesn't take as long to self-talk my way through those sharp reactions to other people. Hang in there. It's what we survivor, we PTSD folks do. You're not alone.
Your flaws makes you human. Your ability to admit them, makes you strong. And that all together makes you pretty darn great.
For me, faith is helping turn it around.
Just yesterday I realized I made a big mistake interpreting an interpersonal situation, and that nothing bad had happened, so I must be getting better now that I'm getting away from my ex.
Hang in there.
