peer support - GD (general discussion)

what do you get out of therapy peer support?
to my logic, therapy peers are not the same as age peers. i might or might not have anything in common with people the same age as i, aka: an age peer. my therapy peers and i share the bond of mental illness. whether we are currently employing professional services, maintaining progress made with professional services (my case) or grasping for straws in the first awareness that we need help, the desire to heal bonds me closely with my therapy peers whom i often call, "my sibs-in-healing." i doesn't even need to know your name to love you the way i wish i could love myself.
when i am in crisis, peer support never feels like enough to get me through. i wonder often if that feeling is proof that it takes a village to heal. there is no single source which can provide enough to get me through a crisis.
when i am doing well, sharing my experience with my peers serves as both reminder and positive reinforcement for the tools which brought me back from full blown psychotic breaks. i haven't been hospitalized (nor jailed) since 1999, but i take my therapy maintenance quite seriously. i don't ever want to go **there** again. i often call my therapy maintenance, "a spiritual diet." i hold that my spiritual diet is as critical a piece of self-care as my physical diet. we are what we eat.
open discussion. anything goes. even unsolicited advice.

Once again I've had a fever today. I'm not going to the hospital because that's a huge waste of time but I did schedule a dr appointment for Wednesday afternoon.

That's huge for me. That I'm not alone, and I'm not necessarily "the crazy one" in the stewpot of my past.
I got a lot out of it.... I haven't had too much therapy due to cost.... I do enjoy if that's the right word to use therapy
I've never been in trauma therapy... I can imagine that wouldn't be easy
I sure get that it can take a village ..... DS back in the really busy day was a great outlet for me when I was losing my folks.... It helped me tremendously
then there is the assurance that i am only one of millions of crazy ones. can there be only one with a million crazy ones?
i've never been quite comfortable calling my therapy peers, "friends," not even when we meet outside the meetings. on many levels, the bonds i share with my closest therapy peers is something deeper than friendship. friends are precious, but, in my own case, the healing bonds i share with my therapy peers are what make the friendships possible.
I always like when you say sibs in healing <3
*peer therapy support helps me a lot of different ways, like feel less alone, emotional support & helps me in learning that I’m allowed to say stuff out loud after a lifetime of being kind of brainwashed or threatened to keep my mouth shut & not say anything
* I don’t know, I could probably write better or give better examples another time. I was struggling with dissociation yesterday & last night & feel like I’m still breaking out of it a little
Abrazos <3
not even shakespeare was able to write the perfect prose in a single sitting. the art of writing is in the re-write. there is ALWAYS room for improvement. i have zero doubt you will say it better another time. practice, practice, practice, my sib-in-healing.
healing happens. hope it happens here.
