OT Tragically Hip

This past August I came back star struck from seeing the Canadian band Arcade Fire live in Washington, DC and you Canadian friends here told me to check out The Tragically Hip, too.  I'd never heard of them.


Tonight I've watched the Netflix movie about their last tour three times.  I can't stop watching it.  It's so sad, with Gord Downie's cancer, but so inspiring, he was so brave on that tour.  Wow. 


My favorite song is Poets.  "Don't tell me what the poets are doing/Don't tell me that they're talking tough/Don't tell me that they're anti-social/Somehow not anti-social enough"

The film depicts a huge show that was attended by Canada's prime minister that filled me with hope for the future in a way nothing has for some time. Gord Downie brought out the best in people. In the film he keeps telling people that he loves them, and he means it, it's not just something he says. To see him stand on the stage at the end of that show and bring out the best in what seemed to be 20,000 or 30,000 people all at once was inspiring. What a good man.

That skating video set to a Hip song was really great, SunCloud. I think you're really going to like the Netflix movie about the Hip a lot, if you liked that. Let me know, OK? Especially what you think about that huge concert the Canadian prime minister attended. It was a big night to remember Gord Downie by.

Yeah, lil, thanks. I'm laid up with a bad head and chest cold, running a fever, but since it gave me a chance to get the time to get to that Netflix Tragically Hip, there's been a good side to my sick day and half laid up.

Watched the document on Gord Downie on CBC a few weeks ago, what a lovely man. It seems Billy Joel was right, only the good die young. He was too young to leave but what a legend he left of talent, kindness, inspiration, compassion and creative. He will be missed by his band members, his fans and his children/family

I love the hip and have seen them in concert a few times. the band's last concert was a huge deal here in Canada. it was even broadcast live with millions tuning in to watch.

That huge concert the Canadian prime minister attended must have been that one broadcast live you mean, Spiral. It must have been really cool to have seen them live like you did. It's amazing that down here in the States we didn't know about them, especially with songs like that one you mention about New Orleans, which I listened to, thanks, it was really cool. Yet I mentioned them by name to my students in my classes and they hadn't heard of them. Sorry I missed seeing them live, but glad I caught this Netflix movie about them.

    Once again I've had a fever today. I'm not going to the hospital because that's a huge waste of time but I did schedule a dr appointment for Wednesday afternoon.
