the recent remergence in the old jipi (jipi is hippie en espanol) factions has this old bubblegummer flashing pretty hard to the days of free love when the old jipis were young and quite harsh on "capitalistic whores." that political rhetoric was especially harsh for the bubblegummer prostitutes like me. please don't pop my bubbles, free lover. i don't work for the three initial corporations. not officially, anyway. neither did the older sister who still calls herself an old jipi and still believes she is the best candidate for educating her bratty bubblegummer sis.


my still shaky attempts to learn from my flashbacks has --potentially-- led me to another linguistic snot knot. "transcendentalists" vs "transcendental meditation." there is one old beatnick in particular which seems to be emerging from the blood and the guts of this still muddled memory. did he introduce me to the 19th century transcendentalists of new england or the 20th century Maharishi from india?


any lit history buffs able to help me fill in the blanks?

From my experience (minimal) it'd be "mediation equals the weird cult guys"" and "-ists are just guys like Thoreau and Emerson, w ho used 10,000 words to say stuff you can get on fortune cookies". No offense to the -ists, but a semester of that in my education, using a highlighter, showed that any short sentence was the important one. The rest was lace and frills, to me.

"Transcendental meditation" I associate with money grabs, although I admit I find a few meditation chants useful, none begin or end with "and dri nk the Flavor-Aid". Never noticed it trans cending much but the tax loopholes, to be honest. I got more out of a VCR video on yoga breathing.

But I am an old X-er, neither jipi nor beanik nor yuppie nor.... Solitude in a forest allows me to find my center. That's about as transcendent as I get, alas.

interesting take, leo. thank you. forestal transcendence sounds like plenty. here on the southern great plains, forests sound downright mystical to me. our patches of short, gnarly raintrees are not enough to provide unicorn housing.

There are always truths we find in any ecological/enviro-system... but I think deserts mroe than any will strip everything to its bones, and forests allow for murkier decay.

the great plains are a bit east of the desert region, leo. not wet enough for murky decay, but not dry enough to strip everything to its bones without help from modern science.

my old jipi sis disagrees with you, mujica. to her superior knowledge, i never will be any more than an entitled bubblegummer who won't share her free love like a properly educated jipi. for what it's worth, old jjpi sis is called, "pimp sis" in my therapy journal. she still wears bell bottoms. she has made her own during the years she couldn't buy them off the rack.

i had to look up, "Fer sher." i slapped my forehead at the results. it would have been obvious if i had seen the t-shirt at walmart.

thank you, jan. fer sher, i've been following the wrong social media streams. nothing new there. i never seem to have the latest slang. i'm still running etymologies on the old slang.

    Once again I've had a fever today. I'm not going to the hospital because that's a huge waste of time but I did schedule a dr appointment for Wednesday afternoon.
