nightmares/ruminations abt date rape 12 years ago

Hello, okay, this is my first post on a forum. I guess I'm hoping for advice. 12 years ago I met a girl on Halloween in a bar, we kissed and exchanged numbers. She was someone I really wanted to get to know (I'm female and I'm gay, if it matters for details sake). I was so enamored by this person. She wasn't gay, but I think she was more curious, so we decided to go out for a drink to see what happened between us.
We met up at a bar (it was quiet only a few other people there) and were having our first drink. The bartender brought over two shots and said they were a gift from a man across the bar. We politely said no thank you and the bartender left, taking the shots with away with him. A few minutes later, the man who had sent the shots over came up to us, those two shots in hand, and said "Here, take the shots. I meant no disrespect, but I hate to see the shots go to waste now. You girls can have them, no strings attached, I will leave you alone". So we shrugged and took the shots, said thanks, and the man walked away. That was the last thing we remember.
The next morning, we both woke up in my bed. We had blacked out. I had foggy memories of a police officer driving us to my house. He made me write down the addess to my car, which I later found abandoned in a sketchy part of town with the tire slashed. The girl, the next morning, in a groggy haze called her friend and got picked up. She later called me and said she had handprint bruises on the inside of her lower legs. I also had large hand and finger print bruising on the insides of my thighs. We decided to meet up again at a sushi resturant to talk about it. She brought her friend (probably for safety, don't blame her). We hung out a couple times after that, but I was drinking heavily (coping) at the time and she was doing whatever it was that she was doing, and we lost touch. I did not think about this event for a long time. I mostly acted as though it didn't happen, tried sucessfully to forget.
But, I've recently started experiencing PTSD symptoms around this event, having dreams about her. Some nighmares. I've been ruminating about the event, almost every minute of the day. I've been thinking about reaching out to the girl. I feel strongly like I should. To ask how she is doing, maybe? Or maybe that is not the healthy thing to do. I've never talked about this event with anyone before, not even in therapy sessions. Should I reach out to her? I feel literal pangs in my heart for her. Not romantically though. I think just want to know that she is okay? I also think that touching base with her might make these dreams and bad feelings go away. What's your opinion? Please help with some advice, this has been really stressful and consuming.

Upon his departure, he remarked, "I am in many people’s pockets; no one will believe you." Have you ever grappled with the silence that follows sexual assault, where the perceived impossibility of being believed necessitates self-censorship?

I doubt that reaching out to that girl will make your symptoms go away. You experienced a trauma and probably need to address it with some kind of counseling or therapy. A good place to start would be calling or texting the folks at RAINN.org for further guidance. That organization was started by Tori Amos (singer) after she experienced sexual assault.
PTSD is best addressed as soon as you see signs of a problem, so it's really good that you brought yourself here xo
gentle hugs, you've done a good thing in coming here and talking about this with us. it isn't an easy thing to do - we know, we've each written our first post here.
