Hello. I'm new to this site and think this might help me.
I went through a traumatic experience as a child- molestation. I kept it in until I was in my thirties. Then, I lost it. I spent 3 1/2 years in psychotherapy to overcome PTSD. I believe that I was healed, but there are times that I find the memories still cause me some pain. I guess this is normal. I went through a difficult marriage for 16 years with some verbal and psychological damage. I divorced him and the pain of watching my children go through our split relationship was almost unbearable. I love my babies so much (they are all grown now and I have grandchildren). But I just couldn't stay with him any longer. They have no idea about what I endured in that relationship, but can't blame him for all of our mistakes.
I'm remarried and very happy. But there was a time last year, while working on my PhD proposal that my spouse thought I didn't love him anymore because I was spending all of my spare time (I work full time too) on my computer, reworking my proposal to get it approved. His repeated questions about my love for him was horrific for me. I had no idea he felt that I didn't love him. At that point, I slowed down on my progress and it took me longer to finish the proposal. Now, I'm in data collection and I can't seem to get motivated to work on it. I wonder if it is my fear that he will think I don't love him because since I haven't been doing a lot on my dissertation, he seems happy and content.
I think my husband has aspergers syndrome (now called "on the spectrum", I guess) so he doesn't read peoples emotions the way a normal person might. But that may be beside the point.
I just want to get through this dissertation and be done with it. My passion for it is gone and I'd like to get it back. Perhaps it is the fear of finishing or something else, I don't know. But I hope this long post makes sense. Just looking for support. I don't have friends to talk to and hope you all understand.
Blessings.

Once again I've had a fever today. I'm not going to the hospital because that's a huge waste of time but I did schedule a dr appointment for Wednesday afternoon.

Its hard to explain why its relevant but i believe it would be very relevant. Hugs.
I've never been there, myself, but the folks I have supported through the dissertation process have me believing it is quite the prolonged stress factor, all by itself. It seems to find every crack in the system, be it personal, matrimonial or whateveral.
Gentle support while you work it through. Welcome aboard.
Also, not to be too cynical, but there are men who are kind of spoiled and need to be at the center of your attention, and there are men who get nervous about their spouse exceeding them in education and earning power. If that is part of what is going on - and it may not even be conscious on his part - then what you may have is him trying to sabotage your accomplishment. Even unconsciously.
I think lovlilbeany's mention of family counseling is an idea you might want to consider. Even one or two sessions could be enough to clarify matters between you. You shouldn't have to choose between your aspirations and your spouse.
Donna- those are good ideas. I think he would like it if I would text him, leave notes, etc. He won't show that he likes it, but those are things that I think would matter to him. I'll give those a try. I get all wrapped up in what I'm doing that I probably do leave him behind.. I love him very much. I don't want anyone but him, and tell him that all the time. Perhaps showing him more would make a difference.
