A journalist who got PTSD covering war stories just put out a PTSD book that says what we've been saying here. That treatment often can do harm by making us repeat our trauma to the point we relive it. That speaking of having PTSD is to bear witness to the things that need to change about society in general, such as rape, war, and domestic violence. So we're a moral voice.
He tells his own story, then he tells the history of PTSD itself and PTSD science from the Greeks to the Civil War to World War I to Vietnam to today.
Good book. It's called THE EVIL HOURS: A BIOGRAPHY OF POST-TRAUMATIC STRESS DISORDER by DAVID J. MORRIS, published by Houghton Mifflin.
It's about time a book like this came out.
