Mother's Day was not quite real in the Kiddie Whorehouses I was raised in. I have been quite content to let it be "Mother-in-Law Day" for the entire 36 years of my marriage. Hubs has appreciated the simplicity. It is a religiously planned event for his upper-middle-class parents. Deviations are problematic. Seating arrangements strictly enforced. Even when I do not attend, my place at the table is set, silver properly arranged. I do not often attend. I am not really housebroken enough to comprehend the "proper" in silver arrangements. Don't even like my eating utensils coated with silver polish. Do you know what is in that stuff? And you are still putting it in your mouth?
This is the second Mother's Day since the MIL died. Last MIL Day, hubs was still convalescing from his string of near-death-experiences. We barely noticed its passing. This year feels different.
I bought my DIL (the mother of my 2 grandchildren) a Mother's Day present yesterday. Not sure I will have the courage to give it to her. She is quite the romantic. I think. She is still mostly a closed door mystery to her Monster-in-law.
Feeling kinda helpless. Anybody understand Mother's Day? Insights welcome. She is Mexican-American. Mother's Day is even more confusing in Spanish.

Due to my increased paranoia, anxiety, and a panic attack over the weekend, my psychiatrist has put me back in a full dose of Zyprexa until further notice. Every time I think I'm getting ahead something happens and it's back to square one. I knew he was gonna do this but I can't help feeling disappointed. It is what it is.

Strength for you to gift her your offering, but doing it, as her being bearer and keeper of the family linage ( name her children in the card) view may help.
There are few things a women is allowed to take pride in, but being that of "Madre" is one of the most important (even if they traditionally have a lot of say in familial decisions).

Artie, hope you have a very nice Mothers day
I adored my mom and always set her some type of flowers in some fancy vase from a 'real flower shop' smile...She loved the fuss or she convinced my she did so I paid through the nose for her enjoyment
It was my way of saying I love you and thank you... I miss her everyday .. xo
Letting God lead the dance. We see how the mystery unfolds.
In my car today I was listening to a florist's Mother's Day ad on the radio and suddenly it hit me. I DO have someone to send Mother's Day flowers to: ME! I know it sounds nuts because I'm a guy and not a mother. But I am the one who managed not only to survive a childhood of abuse.
I am also the one who nurtured my inner child through the shrapnel and gunfire, literally. (I grew up in a war overseas, too.) Somehow, little Muji is still there, alive in me. I was a great Mom to him.
Happy Mother's Day to me.
Muji,
Happy Mother's Day to You.
