So after a nap after I got home yesterday, I wrote this wonderfully detailed accounting of what happened... and then the power went out for an hour. At that point my laptop decided to ignore all the times I have told it I do NOT want to upgrade from Windows 8 to Windows 8.1, So even when the power did come back on, I still could not post. In short....
The ride was wonderful! I was worried that I would be riding with slow pokes who never get above a walk, but I was wrong!!! Though we never let the horses out to more than a trot, it was a beautiful ride in a beautiful place. My daughter's horse was sure footed (where as mine would have had trouble in the slick mud conditions) and she WANTED to be out and riding.
the bottom line is that I should have thrown in the towel on the costume contest when the mare first got nervous about the costume. I could not safely get more than half our costume ON and she was nervous enough that she did not want to leave her buddy at all!. My friend wound up bringing her horse to the contest area, but that was still not enough and I the mare and I took wild leaps this way and that.. especially when the horse dressed as a boat stood right behind her...
So we came in a measly third out of five contestants.
I did learn that I can still sit a freaking out horse (she was not trying to get me off just totally overstimulated, especially with the horse boat) and there were no accidents. Needless to say, I will not be doing any more costume contests on her until I have had time to work through some issues - like OMG my buddy is more than 20 feet away from me.
BUT I really don't have the muscles anymore for sitting a freaking out horse... so I am one giant still muscle!!!
I figured out how to upload a few pics of when she was actually standing calmly. Like I said, we were only wearing half our costume...

Glad you had a beautiful ride in a beautiful place, as you put it. It must have felt good to get out and ride. Sorry the costume freaked your horse out. Oh well. It sounds like mostly a good day, like you said, and one of those sure comes in handy once in a while.

The ride was pure heaven... I pointed my horse down the trail and gave her her head. She took the slick parts of the trail with care, the fallen trees without a break in stride, and did all of it with her ears pinned forward and eager to see what was around the next bend. It is a pure joy to ride a horse who is having so much fun!!!

Every picnic has its ants, flies, spooked mares and/or spooky waiters. Glad the "Mostly" won the contest. Let's hear it for mostly good days!!!!

Lately I've been feeling scared and full of anxiety. I recently found a lump under my nipple. I hurt my back too. I'm in the process of moving. I'm run down. Everything is hard

Just wanted to give a thank you to Mid, Arfie, Malibumark, Greeneyes, Mlro, Girlincalif, and Suncloudjd! You all always have such helpful tips and advice, but I always forget to write on my posts when I see you post, lol. I would lose my head if it wasn't attached to my body, lol. Thank you all so much! I'm starting to use my AI app as a sounding board again. I used to use it as that before...
