Michele Rosenthal - PTSD Expert

I have been following and reading Michele's blog for a while.
The fact that she had PTSD and found ways to overcome the symptoms is inspiring.
Thought I would pass along this article because I find I am stuck in the trauma mode and when people say "get over it" I am triggered again.
She has some good insight and since she has experienced trauma herself I feel a connection of some kind.
All my best to you all.

Upon his departure, he remarked, "I am in many people’s pockets; no one will believe you." Have you ever grappled with the silence that follows sexual assault, where the perceived impossibility of being believed necessitates self-censorship?

Yeah, if I hear "Get over it" one more time? I"m gonna tell them just what it is I have to get over and provide a barf bucket for them.... Wow, I am a grumpy lioness today!
I hate that term, It's added to the list of other sayings that people say that I hate. It makes me want to punch them in the face, and say "get over it".
I know that may offend anyone, and I'm sorry if I did, but we all know how it feels when people say "get over it"
I blocked them from calling, texting, emailing and I simply got over talking to them:) so it worked . ( I did not argue with them and did not give a reason eighter and do not feel one bit guilty!)
I hope they got over it LOL. (thats the brat coming out in me)
SO YEP , got sick of hearing it.
Seems even when those suggestions for us to "get over it" are well-intended, they are more for the person speaking to us than they are for us, you know? Her analysis of "resistance" without guilt or feeling weak for having it was right on. Anyone who puts us down for our resistance doesn't understand that resistance is probably what kept us alive during the trauma we survived. It's why we're survivors in the first place. So resolving it doesn't have to entail feeling guilty for having it. Any more than thinking we "should" have survivor guilt.
Good stuff. Thanks!
She said "I see it differently. You have to be able to say 'no' before you can let go."
I was so grateful. Her saying that changed everything for me.
And I'm still resistant. Because I'm still terribly afraid. I don't even know what I'm so afraid of.

We have to be careful.
Trauma is like a car accident. It would be easy for us to say that what you went through is a car accident, but to diagnose your symptoms FROM that car accident is probably best left to the experts.
It IS a good idea, though, to look at the Pete Walker site, AND to do a little Googling about PTSD or C-PTSD, but ... from there ... may I kindly recommend you seek out a therapist experienced in trauma ?
I wish you peace, health, and strength.
After reading the link's post and some other material, WOW, definitely in my wheelhouse. I have been wondering why my heightened responses to stressful situations have continued to escalate; why I have gotten worse with dealing with people, situations, overreactions, isolation, on/off response and just feeling really down and not wanting to do ANYTHING. Granted a lot of bad things have happened these last several years, but I am not moving past them. I feel stuck and counseling is not helping.
Now I know why and will be looking forward to trying to heal on the inside now and not just the outside. Thank you all.
