one of my meaner psycho snot knots is trusting a compliment. give me a compliment and my instinct is to start looking for hidden daggars. whatcha buttering me up for this time, manipulator?!?!? don't go sticking any apples in my mouth. after half a century of psychotherapy work, i haven't gotten any further than accepting compliments at face value and saying, "thank you." even with my children and the love of my life, i still feel the compulsion to start looking for the manipulations attached to any compliment.
today's read from "meditations for people who worry" is resonating loudly with me. just sharing. . .

yesterday i dared to struggle. today i dare to win. ~bernadette devlin
struggle is okay. struggle is acceptable. everyone admires someone who struggles. indeed, strugglers are usually not a threat to anyone. everyone likes a struggler. if our lives are going well, we can even feel a little superior to a struggler and offer them a helping hand now and again.
but winning. . . now that's another matter entirely. winners are open season. lots of people like to pick off a winner just for the fun of it. you know how it is! it's sort of like eating the heart of a warrior. it gives one power to wipe out a winner. . . or at least we are afraid others believe so.
we can worry a lot about winning. winning takes a lot of courage. personal winning takes even more courage because it is not based on win-lose. daring to run the risk of winning as a person is scary business. . . and. . . well worth the risk.
i have the courage to struggle. dare i risk succeeding?
-----------------end quote----------------
as i typed, it ocurred to me that i don't mind the folks who like to take pot shots at winners. i'm pretty good at evasive maneuvers and even take a bit of pleasure in the game. nanny nanny boo boo. you can't catch me.
my greater fear is the plethora of wounded souls in this world who want me to fix all their problems with a single wave of my magic wand. it genuinely breaks my heart to admit i can't save every puppy in the dog pound.

Once again I've had a fever today. I'm not going to the hospital because that's a huge waste of time but I did schedule a dr appointment for Wednesday afternoon.

I know I need a lot of therapy and have just had a little
It can be hard to open up when yo've been badly hurt over and over again
A single wave of a magic wand sounds like a good plan to me
If only!!.....Saving every being would be fabulous
That's when I go back and watch The Shack
It's my belief and seeing with my eyes helps me a great deal
Big hug Arf...xo
