make friends with change. it's the only thing you can count on. ~chinese proverb
today marks the third consecutive day of kid-free mornings. i'm still having to remind myself that the silence doesn't forewarn of kid mischief in another room. baby sis is in pre-k. big sis is in 2nd grade. big bro is in a new school for 5th grade. the walls and small animals are safe from kid mischief. for now. i have time to remember that four years ago i was a respectable grandma who handed spoiled rotten grandkids back to responsible caregivers. i have been demoted to "mom" by celestial decree.
the start of school year has been chaotic enough to feel like fulfillment of the covidic prophesies of 2020. the employee shortage coupled with the increased demands for all the new safety and tracking laws have everybody running circles. none of the apps are performing as expected, etc., etc. this first week has been rougher-than-usual. prayers needed and appreciated.
still. . . this body of FUBARs feels tame compared to the shock of inheriting 3 young orphans at age 65. i am risking the sin of pride over how well our little ship of fools is riding the crests of these stormy sees. fear not the storms, my children. let us study on how to navigate our ship.
i believe that i am holding steady and speaking honestly when i leave the mood icon squarely on okay, but i feel shakey enough to ask for reality checks. am i making sense or sliding down the proverbial rabbit hole again? in my personal herstory, every psychotic break has been preceeded by absolute certainty that i was fine. how are you? i have come to believe that reality checks are beneficial.
thoughts? opinions? experience? unsolicited advice?

Once again I've had a fever today. I'm not going to the hospital because that's a huge waste of time but I did schedule a dr appointment for Wednesday afternoon.

It sounds like you’re doing good amiga :)
Wow I can’t believe the school year has started already so early for you guys it feels like
I hope you can do something nice for yourself & that you’re doing well as I’m writing this
Big hugs <3 <3 <3
the early school startup is not so strange as it might seem. academic calendars are still coordinated with agricultural calendars. here on the southern great plains, summer is the dormant season. it's too hot and dry to work the fields here right now. dust clouds from plowing, etc., are our meanest form of soil erosion. best to just hit the books.
It must be so hard at times Arf..... I can't imagine.....
What a loving Grandma/mom you are to rescue and support these wee people through what was agony for you
I hope school soon falls into a good new routine..
Big hug and a blessing sent.... xo
stepping small, praying big and letting god lead the dance.
Much of what you posted resonated strongly with me. I don’t have the religious faith that you have, but I strongly believe I am here for a reason- that’s the only thing that keeps me going.
My babies that I fled from an abusive relationship with are now fully grown, and I am no longer a teacher, so at the age of 44, I am trying to find myself again. Does that make sense?
Keep getting up, keep connected and keep trying- sending positivity and kindness your way
i wasn't raised with religion and have crashed and burned in every religion i have attempted to join, but learning to accept and trust powers greater than myself has been an essential part of my own recovery.
"trying to find myself again" makes perfect sense to me, but? ? ? what makes sense to me has all too often been fully dysfunctional in my broken life. my most recent round of needing to find myself again was triggered by inheriting 3 young orphans at the age of 65. 4 years later finds me believing that i don't need to find a new me. life is a dance i learn as i go, one step at a time.
Sounds exhausting, but I’m so glad you feel ok with where you are. I suppose I need to just meet myself where I am- just feel like my purpose was taken away. On several fronts. Hoping that finding myself again will give me a new chance to shine!
I really admire you for raising those children. What a lovely heart you have
my own empty nest years ran from around the turn of the millennium to around 2006 when spent a year working as a volunteer in the katrina cleanup. my work there led to the river research i loved in freedom of retirement. the transition felt an awful lot like getting laid off by bosses who didn't have the courtesy to deliver me a pink slip.
the call to give up retirement for a second parenting career still feels like a cruel joke. yo. . . big fat guy in the sky. . . can you pull your pranks on somebody else next week?
i only wish my heart was as lovely as the socially distant observers tell me it is. plying therapy tools. . . one step at a time.
