Again, not Off Topic in my own strictly personals. Language has a strong and long thread in my personal dementia. It runs many tangled loops from my childhood speech defect (severe) to the rough spots here in my senior years. To this day, it doesn't take much to get me stuttering like a tasteless stand-up-comedian.
Today's sort is about verbs turning into names/nouns. Three freshly snotted knots tugging on the literal knot in my head (IT HURTS) are:
1) Troll
2) Bully
3) Engineer
1) I first met "trolling" on fishing expeditions. It was where you moved slowly enough to find and trap the fish. In the first set of internet protocols I learned (70's and 80's) we would "troll" the circuits to see which ones were working right. In sales, one would "troll" for potential clients/customers. Somewhere in the internet boom at the turn of the millennium, "Troll" became a digi-creature I am still not getting clear visuals on. I think. This week, anyway?
2) This one is not so clear to me. My childhood memories are still suspect. It is hard to guage how far damage of the Trauma Induced Amnesia has healed or how deep the original injury runs. Seems like I remember hearing it as an action even the sweetest of folks could commit without being judged and sentenced. Maybe just denial. My hyper-active metabolism makes me guilty of being A Bully far more often than I can sit still for being A Victim. Doesn't much matter what the sitting still is for. Even here in my senior years, sitting still is a challenge for me.
3) I think I am oughtating on this one. Engineer Wannabe here. Actual College Washout here. Zero right to call myself, "An Engineer." Still, the urges are intense. Is fear of impersonation part of the brain freeze I get every time I open my toolbox?
Thanks for the sort space, guys. It's okay if it doesn't make a lick of sense. Finding the sense of it be the hope of the sort. I don't understand it, either, but typing it out helped loosen the "Pressure Center" that is currently throbbing in my head. Ouch. I hate those suckers.
