No excuse for abuse.
Abusers always have an excuse for what they do to their victims, don't buy into any of it.
I've noticed that people who do criminal things always have an excuse for what they did...like "I needed rent money and I couldn't find a job...so I did a stick-up, no big deal. I had to do it, it's not my fault that jobs are so scarce."
I overheard my father arguing with my mother once..."They don't remember anything that's done to them before the age of six...so what happened doesn't matter." There's always an excuse.
I want to thank everybody for your responce. You have no idea how you have set me free from so much confusion and shame!!!
Blessings to you my friends!
My therapist said that one guideline is age. If the "abuser' is 4 or more years older than the victim, then it's more easily classified as abuse instead of kids engaging in natural exploratory actions.
This makes sense to me, although obviously there are exceptions. One of my abusers was just a couple of years older than me. She obviously knew way more about sex than I did, though! I strongly suspect that's because she was being abused herself and it's easier for me to accept what happened. I don't think it was right or fair, but I also don't think it was entirely her fault.
In any case - your feelings matter, they're important, and they're legitimate. If you were hurt, you were hurt and no one should tell you to feel otherwise.
