Is "Just Plain Crazy" an oxymoron? A self-contradicting phrase, like "Holy War" or "Pretty ugly?" As a 50's/60's child sex trafficking survivor, "Just Plain Crazy" is one of the nicer labels which have been stuck on me throughout my 62 years and I believe there is nothing "Just" or "Plain" about it. Here in my retired technocrat years, I find myself attracted to the "Back to Basics" movement and wonder if I want to reclaim the more traditional label of, "Just Plain Crazy." Skip the rapid cycling psych-name changes I have endured since my first therapy appointment in May of 1972. I don't care what the psych pros might be calling me next publishing season. Give me something sustainable.
Can you tell this morning finds me attempting, once more, to sort the alphabet soup my damaged memory has made of my psych pros? 1972 to the turn of the millennium is ALLOT of formal therapy. Job titles, degree names, psych theories, the names for dx'es, etc., etc., have changed enough to challenge the best trained of eidedic memories. That is before we get to the challenge of personal names. !Me duele a la cabeza! Some days I have to check my driver's license to remember my own name and you want me to remember all that, too? Self-advocacy in motion, my namely ones. . . Can we shoot for something I am actually capable of? Please stop handing me expectations that set me up for failure. I am what I am and I ain't what I ain't, whatever your prefered name for it.
Still sorting. . . Thoughts, opines, reality checks, etc., welcome. Some of your own favorite oxymorons could provide some balance to the effort, if you care to share.

Once again I've had a fever today. I'm not going to the hospital because that's a huge waste of time but I did schedule a dr appointment for Wednesday afternoon.

I'm not joking, btw. I wish I was. *sigh*
I think my favorite oxymoron is "civil war". "OH I do beg your pardon, would you like a cuppa and a biscuit after I bayonet you?".... is what comes to mind. (My inner Monty Python at work.)
Much support, Arfie. Words are tricksy beasties. When they become labels, oh, what vipers they can be.

Because how would we not wind up being goofy? It's a goofy world. How would be not be just plain crazy? It's a plain old crazy world.
I guess I wonder about the use of labels at all. Medicine seems to need them in order to "diagnose" and get paid by insurance companies. And I guess that they're useful for research, but beyond that...it seems more of a weapon than anything else. "He's a psychopath" "She's a narcissist", then pop culture gets a hold of it and it loses all coherent meaning altogether.
The phrase that I call BS on is: "This hurts me more than it hurts you"...that's flat out never true.
My word is organized pandemonium. Currently I am trying to process the word "it". "IT" has been driving me nuts. Last night, and upon waking this morning. The 5 W's are at work, hard labor. I agree the names of dx's, and medications are overwhelming, and not descriptive of the perils of side effects in body, mind and spirit of those who are named and pop the pills..,life time of processing....my best to you and yours Arfie.
I'm okay with Bat-shit Crazy, too. Guess there's no hope for The Arf, huh? Sigh.
Sending you blessings as you try to work through this maze .... Thunderous silence is an oxy that I've always appreciated
I think Popeye had is right.... I am what I am and that's all that I am.... Big squishy hug....xo
My cast iron cookware collection is illegal? Hm-m-m. . . Come ahead and try to get it from this bat-shit crazy old wanderer. . . I will keep it cast iron hot for you while I say, "My, my." like a spider to a fly. "Jump straight ahead in my web." (Rolling Stones)
I have nothing against batpoop, btw, or bats. In fact, I like bats! Batpoop, in moderation, is okay.
The bat guardians are very careful in their bat-shit hygiene. A bag of their bat shit is even safer than a bag full of hygienic fish guts. It is safe to go as bat-shit crazy as you want. Your plants will thank you.
Hm-m-m-m. . . I'm not sure even I am crazy enough to try distilling cast iron. How 'bout I buy a batch of yours?
