I was sick with a stomach bug over the last weekend.  Yesterday I took some blood tests and they came back showing the stomach bug had triggered my chronic kidney disease I got years ago taking Seroquel for my PTSD nightmares.


I had to drive myself to the hospital an hour away to be admitted for IV fluids.  It took having 2 liters of fluids pumped


into my veins, but after 5 hours with a needle in my arms, it started to calm my kidneys down.


I asked the doctor and he reassured me that we caught it in time before it would require me to start kidney dialysis.  I've seen dialysis up close, and have made a personal decision not to do it even though it means you'll die.  If you've had dialysis yourself or seen in up close with a family member or a friend, you'll know that many feel the way I do.


So I'm glad today's kidney episode, though acute, was only temporary.  It was a scare.


By the way, instead of Seroquel for my PTSD nightmares, I'm on Prazosin now because it's processed via the liver and not the kidneys.  I recommend it.


Things have been rough for my health lately.  I've been a good sport. Prayers or good thoughts requested for a fresh start.

Oh no Muji! That sounds horrible. I am so very glad you are ok and that you won't need dialysis. Sending whatever you need your way, you sure do deserve a fresh start.

My complete sympathy.

***Pregnant with my daughter, I had the flu. I too ended up in the ER a couple bags of IV fluids. I have never felt more thirsty in my life. It was awful. You have my respct in driving yourself an hour.***

I know how scary it is. Recently i had bit of a scare with my liver function being effected and enlarged spleen. Its scary, but it sounds like u were brave and kept strong through out.well done. Hugs.

I am sorry that you had to go through such a rough time, muji.
Very happy to hear you won't require dialysis. I do know about it , as I used to take my mother in law to her dialysis. I understand your decision.

Yeah, Ev, "quality of life" was more of an abstract phrase until I sat through dialysis with real people. I'm very grateful I've had a chance to change my diet and meds and lifestyle enough to avoid having to do dialysis thus far.

So glad you got the help you needed. I'm glad you're feeling better and that your kidneys are ok.
I take prazosin for nightmares and have been for years. I'm on a high dose now but after things calm down a bit I'll talk to the Dr. about reducing it.
I'm praying you get back to your normal level of functioning soon. Rest and take care of you!

    Once again I've had a fever today. I'm not going to the hospital because that's a huge waste of time but I did schedule a dr appointment for Wednesday afternoon.
