methinks i don't use those words in the intended meaning, not that i am at all clear on the intended meaning. to my senses, the words sound like an empty platitude and/or a snide remark to get out of an unpleasant situation. methinks i use those words as a subject changer without a hint of sorrow in my tones. i've been told that when i say, "i'm sorry," it sounds like a clear and urgent warning. you doesn't wanna tread further down that path. clear and present danger ahead. when i feel a genuine sorrow for the state of affairs at hand, words are never enough. i rock you gently and cry with you, whether literally or metaphorically.
anybody else confused on the meaning of, "i'm sorry?"

Once again I've had a fever today. I'm not going to the hospital because that's a huge waste of time but I did schedule a dr appointment for Wednesday afternoon.
My tone with "i'm sorry" can range from "warning" to "remorse".
But mostly, it's not comfy to apologize, and I think that always comes through. Apologies take humility. That's a tough one to feel, because t's vulnerability.
Did that make any sense? If not? No worries. Not much does lately.
Since I saw your post a while ago that they turn you off I really try to remember not to use "I'm sorry"... If I do please know that empathy is my meaning sweetie
For me it's that I am really sorry to know that you're suffering or hurting and it's certainly meant to show empathy.... It's never empty
I agree with Leo the meaning behind them and tone speaks volumes
If people have had them be used as sarcasm or nastiness I have no doubt that they could be a big trigger... xo
for me, they started as an escape route from dysfunctional expectations.
"i'm sorry i'm not raising my 6 younger siblings the way you expect mother. I'm only 10."
"i'm sorry i got straight "a's" in school, daddy."
etcetera, etceteri.
then we get to the nice folks who don't have time to be bothered with girls like me. "i'm sorry you don't exist in my world, you filthy piece of white trash."
