i've heard it said that we live in a universe of infinite possiblilties. but i wonder, do we know that? can we? i don't think so. so clinging to the idea that we do, do we have any basis at all to make that claim? no no no she says. but don't bother asking who she is. wonder why she is so sure. now i wonder, could it be that we only believe in the infiniticity of the universe because we are so small and have noticed that it is so big? we'll never go anywhere else, we could have made a mistake. but here there might be something to latch onto. now lets say there are only a couple trillion possibilities. hmm, that's enough to keep us occupied. in that case, it doesn't really matter that it is not infinite. how many human generations will be necessary to get through the couple trillion? i'm pretty sure the species will have become extinct long before. that only further similarizes the couple trillion and the infinite.
what am i getting at you might wonder. well, i live a constant battle in my fairly well wrecked brain over god, and born, live, die, the end - and a few other creative possibilities in between and around. you see, i have a creature that dwells in me insisting that it is a thing not unlike a spirit, that spirits really do exist and that they are eternal, and that it had me laboring all these years of my life building an eternal place where i will dwell in misery. i accept that this is sheer insanity. that no one in itts right mind can subscribe to a belief in this sort of eternity. may be only a couple trillion, but who's counting? so aside from my own life of damage, and needing to sort it all out, if my hijacker is correct that that is what i've built and that is what is in store...
i'm sorry to say it ends here, the above thought. this discussion is in fact an admission on my part, that i really d consider the unlikely above mentioned possibilities. i am ok with forgetting about trauma and the whys of self harm. that this is no ptsd, but a single person who was picked out by a spirit/demon for its joy of causing me pain. i've seriously said that this is possible to my healthcare providers. they did give eachother the "look" but i qualified it with a belief that this could be proved with science and provided other more rational theories as cover. i came away not appearing totally "off the wall", psychotic, or i don't know, maybe just completely dissociated out of the universe all together. i don't know which of these applies to me? do you? don't be shy. don't worry about hurting my feelings. how do they say it? i'm a big boy, i can take it. no, i can't. yes. i can.
so how will you describe me and my state of mind? where is the... who holds the lasso that might pull me in? i find i am always put to wait for way too long in uncertainty and every moment hurts as much as the pain in my feet and knees. it draws as much gushing as my most severe injury. it is as bad, done to, what i do myself and then worst of all, it makes me torment the only ones i wish i could cling and be clung to with love. i don't like what i'm experiencing today. unfortunately it is a resting point on the path that i'm on. i see no forks in the road, so where i wonder is this road leading? how did i happen to find this one to journey on?
But it also plays a part in my why's.
I hope you find yours.
J.
I don't believe in demons. But my heart sure breaks for you.
(As an atheist, I find myself forever defending my beliefs as not doubting or rejecting anything. For me, it brought a great peace...that's just me. I wish peace for you and for everyone.)
As for "infinite possibilities"....My daughter requested a book on Chaos Theory. I'm in line to read it, but it suggests that all things might not be possible. Some really interesting and heavy duty math in there.

Being "out" as an atheist, I've run into dozens of closeted atheists and a few closeted theists too... Often huge stigma...HUGE stigma in having different religious beliefs than are culturally acceptable.
As for "proving" spirits....you'd have to first start with a definition. Who was it, St Francis (?) who said that "even God can't make a triangle with more than 3 sides".
If, by definition, a spirit is something that can't be "seen" (measured/recorded), then science could never prove a spirit. But if you had some other definition...than possibly it could....

anyway i believe that a spirit or spirits are something along the lines of strings in string theory and i know there is much more to it than what i just said but... i believe "strings" do spiritual things. lack of physical dimensionality plays into this also.
