My PTSD was diagnosed and treated somewhat 30 some years ago. I almost forgot I had it, until recently. I've lived in a personal care home for almost 3 years now. I had a roommate for the first 2 years but she was hardly ever here and they moved her down to her own room on the first floor. Then I had the room to myself for several months and was beginning to like the privacy. Then they gave me a new roommate, a woman who was on parole who insisted on having her bedside lamp on all night! When I said something, she screamed at me! That set me off. I said something to the administrator and he moved her downstairs with someone else. Now they're talking about giving me another roommate and I'm scared to death. Not until I talked to my therapist did I realize my fears were connected to my PTSD. She wants me to tell the administrator about my PTSD so he understands why I want a single room, not that there's any available now. I'm not just scared, I'm terrified of having a new roommate.
