I cut my mother and father off in August and haven't spoken to either since then. I planned on keeping it that way. But my mother has been harassing my best friend on facebook. My friend hadn't blocked her even though I encouraged her. I think she felt like at least she can tell her I'm alive and ok even if she never gave any details.
Today, my friend called and my mother messaged her demanding my number because my father is in the hospital with a bleeding ulcer. He has rheumatoid arthritis and doesn't take his medication or the right ones and chooses to try his own concoctions, involving aspirin, to deal with the pain. I can't blame him for trying since doctors have failed him but he has a history of bleeding ulcers. I think the first was 20 years ago and he's been hospitalized a few times for them. He's had RA for a long time. So the last thing he should be taking is aspirin.
I unblocked my mother on facebook and sent her a message that she can't keep harassing my friend and there's a reason she is cut off. I said I won't call or give my number but she can message me about my father. And said if she becomes nasty or demeaning or demanding, I'm blocking her again. I just sent it. She's not on.
I feel sick. I just want those miserable people out of my life. They are violent, unstable and mentally ill. Both of them. I can't give her my number. It will never end. She texted and called every other day asking me to contact her before I changed it. She badgered my aunt and uncle until they joined in and I had to block them too. They can only reach me through email. I blocked only my mother's email. I told them they can email me but that's it because they only reason they would ever contact me was to try to get me to call her so she would get off of their backs. I have a lovely family, don't I?
They are the cause of PTSD for me. They are the reason I fight the thoughts that tell me I'm worthless and will never succeed at anything. They are the reason why having relationships with people, especially men, is difficult for me. I am naturally a loner but their abuse makes me want to be a hermit. I still fight that every time I meet new people.
I'm nauseous, feel like I'll vomit soon. And I'm in Texas. They are in Pennsylvania. I can't even visit if I wanted to.
My father has dealt with these ulcers on and off for years. He's not going anywhere. That being said, there is no mending our relationship. I feel fear if I even think about being in the same closed-off room with them again. You can't have a relationship with those that cause you fear.
I told my friend again to block her this time and she is. At least now she won't be harassed.
It sounds to me like you're expecting new offending messages from your mother. You have every right to block her again even before that happens. And I'm glad your friend is blocking her too.
As for your father: To care for his health is his responsibility, not yours. It may sound tough here but I believe the less you know about him the better it will probably be for you. You owe them nothing, so protect yourself.
I wish you strength, hugs
Building relationships (especially with men) was for me very difficult too because of anxiety, and fear. I needed yeeeeeaaaarrs to finally speak and just be me without fear and anxiety when i was with people, but i did it. what helped me: staying away from my parents home and just being with the healthy kind of people. This new perspective gave me hope.
Dont forget that you are loved and connected to the univers, you are not worthless, you're beautiful and kind. You have a right to be free. And free from the negative
Good for you for setting your boundaries and sticking to them. I cut my dad and his family out of my life completely.
