First of all let me start by saying if you were abused from 9-12 you probably have it, if you don't you're a very resilient..
It USED to be thought that only people who had experienced or seen a very violent, traumatic event such as war, POWs, natural disters, car accidents, or being very severly physically abused could have PTSD, but now is known that is not so.
PTSD happens when you are exposed to the avobe mention or to continous stressful situations, sexual abuse is of course one of them.
Symptoms of PTSD can vary, from flashbacks, to body memories, to dissociation, severe depression, feeling of sureal surroundings, loss of reality, anxiety, nightmares, and others.....
Well didn't do too good of a job explaining but, if you suspect you have PTSD, i suggest to seek professional help and come here.
I'm sure others will soon answer with great answers to your question, welcome to the PTSD club, i mean group. :)
Is not exactly a "country club" but you will meet some awesome people in here.
Hi there and welcome! On your above mentioned comment, there is a sub catagory of PTSD called Rape Trauma Syndrome because all studies of PTSD originally started with war veterans, which is why you have that interpretation. Rape trauma syndrome focuses more on sexual based crimes that can leave a victim feeling hypervigilant in safety, the need to maintain control in one's life, feelings of always being unsafe or at risk, flashbacks, panic attacks, feelings of guilt or some kind of responsibility.
It still falls under PTSD, but focuses on a couple different things. Hope this helps, there are TONS online about Rape Trauma Syndrome, most very accurate. Message anytime :)
