Thanks to everybody for the support you gave me to get through the last two days of four doctors' appointments in 2 days. Job done.
Now I go back to my workplace. I teach nursing students at a community college. I plan to retire to Mexico, where I grew up, in 2 years. That's why after the school year ended this past June, I spent the summer months of June and July in Mexico, learning about health care issues there and how to prepare for the move with my PTSD there.
Last night a coworker invited me out to dinner, and over dinner he filled me in on how things are at our workplace. They're not good. Our college has been losing enrollment steadily for 8 years now, and cost cutting is disrupting relationships among coworkers now.
It took a special effort to get through last semester following my stomach surgery for weight loss last December. Thankfully, to do it, I got a lot of support here and from offline friends like this coworker who went to dinner with me last night.
I'm feeling challenged about making that kind of special effort again for the semester ahead, but from my reliable debriefing from my coworker over dinner last night, that's the reality of it. To keep my eye on the big picture, I bought a plane ticket to Mexico and made my reservation for lodging for there Dec. 14, 2019 to Jan. 9, 2020. That way I'd have that future goal to work toward.
Now it's time to go in to the office and get started doing it.

So glad you already booked another trip down to Mexico.
Do you have a lot of things around you to remind you of your Mexico?
I wish our college were in your neck of the woods, SimpsonsOK. A nearby community college where I live was recently taken over by the state due to mismanagement, and the state did away with tenure there. Lots of faculty lost their jobs.
The word is that we're next in the state's sights. I've loved teaching for 3 decades, so it's sad to be ending my career in a school in such disarray. On the other hand, my friendly coworker who called me at home is 10 years from retirement, not just 2 years away like I am, so I can be grateful that I'm in better shape than he is--and a lot like him. Plus, working on the transition to retirement by going to Mexico like I do, it does help that I have that goal before me to hang in there for.
Tomorrow I'm going back to complete a cybersecurity training assigned over the summer while I was in Mexico. I'll be doing it with one of the friendly coworkers I saw today, so that's good. I'm not looking forward to running into my boss or any of the other bosses, though. The disarray of the college affects them the most.
