Back in May I kind of ran out of gas as far as teaching to the end of the school year. I have flashbacks every day, sometimes up there in front of a class full of 35 students. Sometimes it's hard to stay functional, concentrate, and keep my stuff together. Last Spring I had 3 very rude students who bullied me in my own classroom and got away with it even after it was reported to my boss and my bossed talked to them. So in that case it was hard to keep my stuff together as far as avoiding being provoked.
But I posted here asking for support in the last couple of weeks of the school year when I, as an individual, was out of gas. You all did a countdown to keep me focused on your support day by day, and you got me through.
This year is my 5th year on this job, and if I make it through there's a good chance I'll get tenure--job security I haven't had since I was hospitalized for PTSD the last time. That job security isn't just something I earned, but something I believe would help me make it to retirement with PTSD in 5 years.
Your support means everything to me because since I had permanent 60% kidney damage 4 years ago, I can't take Ativan or other meds to get me through hard days at work. Tomorrow is our first day of school. We have meetings, not classes. Classes begin Monday. And then we're off to the races.
I'd really appreciate it if you would do another countdown with me to classes Monday. I'm getting kind of anxious about it, and it would help.

It's a shame we can't turn back the hands of time. My mother's live-in boyfriend who was my father's best friend taught Vo-Tech to high school students. I laughed my ass off when he told me the time this kid was mouthing off in his class. He walked over to him, picked him up, and put him head first in a trash can in front of all of the other students. The rest of that school year was smooth as silk.
Tunnel-vision my man, tunnel vision. Just go in there with confidence and do your job like you know how to do it. And nip these little creatures in the bud quick if they are there. One more year of a job well done should equal tenure. TUNNEL VISION.

I start my 4 days of in-service on Monday. Then the kids come on the 31st for me.
This will be my 16th year, and I still get terrified.
I'm hoping that maybe I can do 20 years and then take an early retirement with my writing making me able to be a full-time professional author.
Being a public school teacher is a very dismal prospect right now. Many people told me to get out ASAP... Who knows? Maybe I can become an adjunct prof and aspire to tenure like you!
I wondered if that would just alienate me further from them when I went back to them. No. It was a smart move. I returned put back together again and did fine in the meetings that continued until 4pm.
Then, surprise: a co-worker stopped me as we were leaving and asked me to help her find support for a church friend who has been diagnosed with PTSD! Can you believe that? So I told her about DS PTSD.
Ya never know....
