It's my mom's birthday today. I'd love to say that it's a happy day of warm remembrances, but it gives me a knot in my throat and it sends chills down my spine even though I loved my mom.
I was a very dutiful oldest son to my mom growing up. My mom, though, was mentally ill having come from an abusive rural home ruled by a tyrant father. Then when my parents decided to become missionaries in a war zone, she had a breakdown that turned her into a tyrant as well. Lots of beatings, lies, manipulations, and being put in danger in the war environment followed. It was terrifyfing to be my mom's boy.
Congratulations to all of you who are parents with PTSD who have stopped the cycle where hurt people hurt people and you treat your children with loving care. On this day I bless you all. You are wonderful.

Once again I've had a fever today. I'm not going to the hospital because that's a huge waste of time but I did schedule a dr appointment for Wednesday afternoon.

Reading that your mom became a tyrant after being exposed to the violence of the war zone your father brought you all to reminds me of something I learned recently about Hitler - that it was the trauma he experienced during WWI that gave him his love of violence. Trauma is not just a personal tragedy, it's a pressing human issue.
Thank God for the parents who don't bequeath personal violence to the next generation.
Gots my rope ready. . . Snug it tight and double check the knots. Comfort checks encouraged.
Because you really,really are.
Much peace and comfort to you.
Kids seem okay so far. They've triggered triggers I never knew I had though...
So did coming home tonight and finding ALL of these supportive posts. Thank you all. It was a hard day to get through at work at times, remembering it was my mom's birthday and yet that my love for her couldn't heal her mental illness. When remembrance got tough during the day, though, I knew that I had shared here and that therefore there would be support waiting for me from you at the end of my day. I could count on it.
And here it is, all of that support from you. You are there for me. Thank you.
