Founding a PTSD advocacy program! Wow! You are so AWESOME! Such an inspiration.
I would be happy to contribute a title. Soon after exiting therapy, I wanted to learn more about it, and found this book, which is (although more academic), very helpful...
Rebuilding Shattered Lives, The responsible (key word) treatment of Complex PTSD and dissociative disorders, by Dr. James Chu
Would LOVE to learn more about this advocacy program.
You ROCK, michelefaith!

For people with a significant other, this book is a must read.
Allies in Healing When the Person You love Was Sexually Abused as a Child
By Laura Davis, She also wrote The Courage to Heal, which has a lot of controversy surrounding it.
But my Husband and I found this book very helpful. Wish it had been printed many years ago.
Also, for anyone who deals with or wants to understand Dissociative Identity Disorder (Multiple Personality Disorder)
Set This House In Order A Romance of Souls. By Matt Ruff
First Person Plural My Life as a Multiple. By Cameron West Ph.D.
Im not a Multiple, but these books really helped me to understand the disorder and have a clearer idea of what people with the disorder have to deal with.
I have others, but they are more for Therapist. I didnt realize that until after I bought them, so I never read them. When I was first diagnosed I bought any book I thought would help me understand and learn. Hope this helps. (((Hugs)))
If not "The Hero Within" Carol Peterson (sorry i thinks that her name).Best sefhelp book i ever read.
I have suffered from PTSD -- due to childhood abuse -- for most of my life. These last ten years it has been almost unbearable. I've been hospitalized (which really helped) and have been in good therapy, doing mindful meditation, focusing on my work (which is something I love) and doing a lot of writing and art.
I recently published a book of poems called Substituting Dangers: A Journey With PTSD. It is by Clair Itey. I'd love for others to know about it. I AM NOT TRYING TO MAKE MONEY OFF IT, only to reach out to the community that has been so wonderful to me. I am going to order a bunch of author copies and will make some available for free for those who can't afford it.
Once again, thank you all, and good luck in your organization. Once you get going, I'd like to find a way to be a part of it! Let me know.
Looking forward to uploading the fabulous books you've mentioned. Will do that this weekend and will go live on June 1.
I bought a paperback book titled "Trauma and Recovery" by Judith Herman, MD.
From the back cover of this book "...Herman's brilliant insights into the nature of trauma and the process of healing shine through in every page of this rich and compassionate book."
I finally have *hope* for overcoming PTSD because of this book.
"Controlling People" by Patricia Evans is another book I purchased. Taken from the back of the book "... "Controlling People" helps you unravel the senseless behavior that plagues both the controller and the victim. Can the pattern, or 'Spell' be broken? Yes! says the author.
Should you ever find yourself in the thrall of someone close to you, "Controlling People" is here to give you the wisdom, power, and comfort you need to be a stronger, happier, and more independent person."
I also have *hope* after delving into this book. We learn how to survive around our loved ones that have Narcasistic Personality Disorder.
