To me, one of the most difficult things is when we love someone more than they (currently) love themselves. I was the only nondrinker in a family of alcoholics (including my siblings) and my attempts at help were brushed aside and slowly they destroyed their lives. We can't control another person, but we can at least step in and do our best for them. If your husband's current reasoning is not logical (and what you describe is not logical but self-destructive) and you are higher functioning, then do your best to be the one rowing the life boat back into a safe harbor.
My heart goes out to you. You may not have control of the ultimate outcome, but you can at least intervene to the extent you are able.
I know that if I were in his shape, down the line if someone did reach out for help for me, I'd eventually be grateful. Most likely not now, but eventually. And I wouldn't do it just for him, but for myself, too, from what you describe your own situation is. Thoughts and prayers with you.
Thanks so much
Audra
Glad to hear you finally got some professional support/help for your husband. I cannot even imagine what you were going through - and I don't imagine even now it is particularly easy, but you are in my thoughts and prayers.

It is one thing to seek advice, it is another whole level of bravery to follow through and get yourself to do something you are afraid to do.
My hat goes off to you, and my heart goes out to you.
I feel for you growing up and even now my mother has a lot of problems (I leave it as "problems" because she is so many things and so undiagnosed) and I often worry / have worried about her safety. Just within the last year she's had a stroke and there've been a few times I've had to call 911 after finding her passed out on the floor from substance abuse. She's diabetic now too.
It is so hard to care about someone so much more than they seem to care about themselves. Just keep taking care of yourself, first. As you can only control your own actions.
I really do hope things start to look up for you. This is hard.
