I'm new to this group and was just bothered by something and I would feel better if I could vent a bit. And maybe hear any vents that need to be said from others.
I never like people showing up at my house unexpected, my BF knows that, yet he went off and scheduled some maintenance work for today. I called the office and asked about it, hoping to get an exact time. I was told "don't worry, they will come today." Now I'm anxious, trying to fake it and act like it doesn't bother me, not calling them to pin them down to a particular time. In truth I need like a whole 24 hours notice to mentally prepare and wrap my head around the idea of others coming over...at least 24. *sigh*

I did the dumbest thing today. I charged my earbuds, unplugged the block and put the block in my little bag instead of the earbuds. I wasn't happy about that when I got to the gym. What a dummy!

Ever since I stopped doing therapy because of insurance, I've been feeling that old tense and irritable sense of anxiety and stress. I hate that. I was making so many strides and changes during therapy, my therapist would acknowledge all of my progress and accomplishments, and I miss that reassurance. Today I thought about it, and I made those changes! She would always tell me that I chose to...
Hang in there and try not to worry. Most things end up better than I imagine them when I have anxiety.
Luck and blessing...
ANd pls, remind the cohabitant---he has to let you know about this so you can feel "ready"....
Totally relate to the anxiety over maintenance\service windows. Even waiting on an expected delivery from a delivery person I know will put me on edge. Strangers flashing crack from tool weighted belts on their pants??? I need my full therapy tool box. I am not a good enough actor to fake okayness with it.
Gentle validation, Debbie. You are not alone. *sigh* covers it eloquently.
I had a job that took in visits though out the day and driving time so the company wouldn't give specific times to people waiting
I hear you though ...I don't like waiting or strangers in my home... I hope the person is in and out soon...x
I reminded my BF that that has always been my role to schedule maintenance, and please stick to that, as it is an issue for me. I also don't want my son surprised by strangers in the house and he neglected to inform him as well. It also isn't practical for him to arrange that as he is not close to the home and available to meet them if needed.
Thanks for the validation!!!!! I really feel better.
I made such a bit of a txt fuss to BF and felt bad, explained my anxiety about it briefly to not seem like I was starting a fight over nonsense. I couldn't help feeling I was being a bit nutty.
I've been a bit frozen. They still didn't come. I think I'll give myself 15 more mins then get up, lock all the locks so they can't come in, shower, get ready for work, then tell my (19 y/o) son to let them in while I work a bit.
I get stressed over phone calls too sometimes. What is that?
I'm sloooowly getting better--- I still startle when I hear the phone ring but sometimes I answer it and don't sound shaky or nervous, and I can even remember what was said.
Work in progress....
I think it's just that weird deep sense tha any phone call could be a bad news phone call, for me. Phone ringing was, for so much of my life, gonna be bad news from home, docs, someone.... Thank goodness for call screening.
Update: While I was locked in my room, the sink, microwave and door got repaired. Whew! That is over! (It is a complex, they have a key, I didn't get around to securing the top lock)
I procrastinate phone calls with friends because I only like calling them when I'm in "the mood" for it, in a good mood, otherwise i have a hard time focusing, and feel like a fake for hiding the true mood I'm in. Same thing with business calls, I need a mood to get into it, and also it usually triggers a task list of other things to follow up on. Rarely can anything get accomplished with a simple phone call, I dread the anticipation of more follow up.
Lol, thanks for not just telling me to "grow up!"
I guess I'm a minor phone a phobe, but a major door a phobe.
So guess what I did for Halloween when my son was little?
After trick or treating, I didn't want anyone knocking on our door or expecting me to answer it. Wouldn't Halloween be the perfect night for a burglar or killer to get let into your house to kill you anyway? So we turned the lights out, hid in a tent in the back room and watched ghostbusters or other movies that didn't scare me to death. Of course snacks and everything we needed were with us...and we could use flashlight to get to bathroom. (The tent also served to hide the glow of the laptop we watched on...as well as adding to the festivities)(my son never knew we were hiding, he just thought it was our cool celebration)
I'm with you. Not a big phone fan, and I live peacefully alone when I have the sense that my little crackerbox apartment is my castle. I know people mean well wanting to do favors for folks such as ourselves, but the biggest favor would be just to let us set the agenda as to our surroundings.
