Just a gratitude post to all of my DS PTSD friends who wished me safe journeys on my latest trip down to Mexico to the town where I hope to retire in 2 years. The way things have gone for me in the US economy, the only way for me to afford retirement is to retire abroad as an ex-patriate.

I'm lucky, though, that Mexico's where I grew up as a kid, so there are lots of good memories for me here. It means a lot to be here for a week this time because the surgery I had in December made me have to cancel coming for Christmas.

It was a harder trip this time. My doctor's warning that fatigue would be a factor were correct. My amigos here received me last night with hugs and open arms, though, so it was well worth it. Thanks for your support getting here.

I heard Mexico is cheaper to live in that the US. I guess if you know the language, then it would be easier. Hope you have a happy retirement.

I take it you are on that cobble stone street with the market and bistros?

Thanks, everybody. It's so nice to have you share in my journey this week. I'm realizing as I'm 6 weeks from completing teaching this school year that retiring here on my own in 2 years is going to be a big task. So I'm trying to do my research into what it's like to live here permanently rather than just visit on vacation. Your support is great to have!

Oh thank you for the picture muji~. it transported me back in time to when my wife Lisa and I first went to Mexico and we ate at a friendly spot with umbrellas and outside seating. Lisa loved the beer and the little soft tacos that I forget the name of now.

Just seeing it there, I hope you are able to secure your dream of retiring there in two years, and enjoying life.

So glad y'all liked the photo! My town really looks like that. Zoning doesn't allow any skyscrapers, no metal and glass office buildings. The local architecture has to match the colonial buildings, kind of like with colonial Williamsburg in Virginia. Except it's a big city of 200,000 people or so, not just a museum site. Pretty amazing.

And so glad that others have good Mexico memories, too. It's so nice to share with y'all!
