Getting vandalized car fixed
Last year was a tough year for me teaching alien subjects at my community college. I teach Spanish from my growing up in South America as a missionary kid and I teach nursing students death and dying classes from having been a hospital chaplain between 2001-2010. I'd been at the college for 5 years when somehow the mood soured at school, I guess in ways the national mood did, too. In one semester last year a kid threw acid on the hood of my car. In the next semester--3 days after the presidential election--somebody slashed my tire.
It was really triggering to my PTSD. This sort of thing hadn't happened to me in a long time. The last time was when I started teching at all and that was when I taught high school way long ago. Back then my first month as a teacher had been greated by someone who broke in my window on my car's passenger side.
It being so long since then, I really had to step up my PTSD coping skills, especially my hypervigilant ones, to keep from falling into outright paranoia. I replaced the tire right away because it was ruined and I needed to drive the car to work every tday, but I drove the car with the hood's paint pealing until I could budget to have it painted. This month I pay my car off, which means since I don't have to make car payments, that money now can pay for the paint job.
I dropped off my car at the body shop to be painted today. They'll have it ready Wednesday. It's good finally to get that reminder of ill will off the front of my hood right in front of me when I drive around town.
Thanks for the support you gave me here to get through this year's automotive vandalism. You helped me have enough self esteem not to give up and to have my car repainted instead now.
Has anybody else been PTSD-triggered by vandalism?

Once again I've had a fever today. I'm not going to the hospital because that's a huge waste of time but I did schedule a dr appointment for Wednesday afternoon.

I don't know if you posted about it at the time, or I have just forgotten.
Hugs...that's just...mean.

Whoa, Musk, that break in you went through was a major violation!! Glad they did it when you weren't there, too, and you all weren't hurt.
Hope your wheels ride smoother for the owner's taking back his power.
Now if only we could find out how truly marginalized that person felt who slashed my tire three days after the last presidential election, I could really feel good about putting things to rest concerning those who feel so powerfully compelled to lay hands on my car......
On my end there's good news: minutes ago I just got a call from the body shop that my little 2009 Hyundai Accent's paint job repairing the acid vandalism on its hood has been completed. I can now call a cab to go pick my car up.
Thanks, Milla. When I first started therapy, I wrote a book about the marginalization abroad behind the leftist bomb that hit the hood of my car and the right wing military torture that gave me PTSD. Writing that book and coming here daily I find a way to express my own sense of marginalization arfie describes so I, in turn, don't lash out left and right.
So far nobody has had to write a body shop a $500 check because of me yet.
Namaste, and knock on wood.
Having had your help processing how I felt about the violation of its vandalism, I really enjoyed driving it home and shiny and new looking. I drove it around to my friends to show it off and showed it off for my night class I taught at the college tonight. It was kewl.
Thanks for helping me embrace a chance to let something go a little bit and be happy some after all. :-)
