Today I learned that a friend of mine is dying of kidney failure. I've known her for 8 years now. After 6 and 1/2 years of dialysis 3 times a week for kidney disease, she's had enough and discontinued dialysis. In the interim, she's had both brain surgery and heart surgery along with her kidney dialysis, so she's been a real fighter. I admire her, really, I don't know if I could have fought the good fight all of those times like she has.
I got to be one of the last friends to visit her at home before they had to take her into the hospital. She's always been a a lot of fun. We had a good time laughing. She's got these clear big blue eyes and a world class laugh, I'll never forget.
Anyway, now she's in hospice in the hospital. They were going to transfer her from the hospital to a nursing home, but she's too far gone to make even that trip. So this is it, any day now.
As many of you already know, I have advanced kidney disease, too, along with my PTSD, which is why I came here to DS PTSD begin with. My kidney condition didn't allow me psych meds, so I came here for peer support to take the place of meds for PTSD. The manner of her death, therefore, may well be mine, too. I just hope when my time comes, I have her kind of class at the end. If you can have a good thought or a prayer for my friend, let me know and I'll pass them along to her and her loved ones.

Once again I've had a fever today. I'm not going to the hospital because that's a huge waste of time but I did schedule a dr appointment for Wednesday afternoon.

i'm so sorry about your friend.
Sending you support and solace.
We are all just a heartbeat away.... a heartbeat from eternity.
Praying for peace and comfort during this difficult time.
((hugs))
Kind of sobering, since I have chronic kidney disease, too, like her, along with my PTSD. I'm on the edge of dialysis, though, and have refused to begin it for 8 years because of this very issue.
Her memorial service is on Saturday.
