It is our imagination gone amuck. It can be healed in time and integrated but it takes time. I learned to accept the thoughts and nightmares and just meditiate and surrender to them.
When you accept them and detach you gain control of them. Funny but it is true.
.
So sorry to read of the continuance of the flashbacks and nightmares, and as well of your BF's deployment.
.
I do not have a BF (yet), but also changed my surroundings (just two weeks ago), however knew better than to expect zero triggers/reminders. Had a large dose of them today, in fact. I can handle "some" level of triggering, but it depends.
.
I'm working with daily meditation. Wanderer was my faithful influence here. Exercise during the day also helps with sleep issues (including nightmares, which I am also still struggling with).
.
Like Wanderer suggested, it takes time. Whatever you decide to do, develop a good "tool kit," and commit to working on it every day.
.
If you need some suggestions for tools, there are many here (in addition to myself and Wanderer) who I'm sure would be happy to share with you what works for them.
.
Your conscientiousness about your relationship with your BF assures me somehow that everything will be more than okay.
.
Please let us know if and how we may be helpful.
