I just found out I'll be going to a baseball game with a best friend of mine when I make my visit to see him next month. Awesome.
I had a friend here at DS PTSD tell me about going to a ball game with Dad this Father's Day. That is so awesome. I'm glad I'll be going with my best friend, but it would be so great if I could spend Father's Day like that with my dad.
Father's Day is sad for me because I had to separate from him since he's my abuser. Last time I was with my Dad was at a Christmas I tried to spend with him but he was nasty for the 3 days of my visit and ended it with a punch to my face.
The pretext for his being angry was that gay people went to my church, something I wasn't bringing up and something he never had to experience, so it was really no more than a pretext. It didn't hurt physically, he's in his 80s, but it hurt emotionally that he never stopped with the hatefulness. He was a Phillies fan, but he went to games on his own or watched them on tv on his own, never sharing. It's a shame, it's his loss, too, and not just mine.
All the best to all who are lucky enough to have relationships with their fathers, Happy Father's Day! And please take a minute to remember those of us for whom it's a painful reminder that for some of us it is not so. Thanks.

Once again I've had a fever today. I'm not going to the hospital because that's a huge waste of time but I did schedule a dr appointment for Wednesday afternoon.

i am so sorry what an incredibly difficult reminder father's
day is for you, because of your father's abuse, and the loss, the
hole it has left in your life.
usually,i don't think about father's day much,it is often a day i forget.
just another day.
but this year,i feel a real emptiness.
the last time i saw my father i was 3 years old.
he suffered severely from paranoid schizophrenia.i know little about him (little information from my family, none from his,who ignored my existance)...except that it most likely wouldn't have been safe to have grown up with him,and when i tried a few years ago to find out information about him from the pysch hospital i knew he was in,across
the country, they denied my request, except to tell me he had passed away there....
recently,i have been thinking about trying again to get a hold of his medical records, but i know it's a long shot....and my therapist is very concerned about my doing this, worried about the effect it may have on me.
i have been vague here i guess,i'm sorry.
i am very confused.it is a very complicated situation.
i just know that it will be better for me to stay inside on sunday, rather than seeing all the proud and happy fathers out with their loving families.
you have my empathy,muji.
It does hurt a great deal ... My Dad has passed and I wish I would have addressed with him while I had the chance the ways he hurt me... Not as punishing him but to see if there was anyway I could sort it out for myself.... I actually became much angrier after he passed
I still miss him though... I miss both of my parents
I hope those who can will celebrate and those of us who can't know that there is a lot that wasn't our fault.... Another hug and a blessing...xo
I feel for everybody else, too, and appreciate your saying something. I wish it had been different for us all. We all did deserve a proper dad after all, didn't we?
If not for DS, I wouldn't have even realized FD was coming up. My dad died in 2010 but I don't feel like I ever had a dad. My dad acted nothing like a father is supposed to. I am sad I didn't have one though.
Be thankful if you were blessed with good parents, and be good to them.
