My therapist has mentioned that I might have PTSD. I never really asked him straight up though. Maybe I will at our next session.

I'm a 40 year old male who was abused by my mom. My therapist calls what happened to me covert sexual abuse. Some things she did were covert. Others, I think the word molestation applies more. Whatever you call it, I know it had a huge impact on my life.

How exactly do u know if u have PTSD? I know I've always isolated way too much. Never been married. No kids. Not many friends. I have OCD and depression. R these signs of PTSD? idk

I'd say they can be....I relate and have been dx with OCD and depression too was sexually abused too...

But only a good psychiatrist can diagnosed you...If your Doc says you do you probably do....

My biggest telltale sign of PTSD is going from 0 to 60 in an instant over things considered insignificant by others. Lots of buttons that get pushed, if you will.

That's what my OCD feels like. I can be fine, and then instantly I can have intense anxiety. Over something very small. Is that what you mean?

Mmmm... not anxiety for me. More like rage. Luckily, it's been pretty good lately. I'd get like a kitty in a corner that's just been hit with a bucket of water.

The cause in your childhood sounds familiar as do your symptoms, but both the cause and symptoms can overlap with other diagnoses, too. To pinpoint the diagnosis, would your therapist be willing to refer you to a professional who is a PTSD specialist for the dx part of your therapy? I was misdiagnosed at first, and my misdiagnosis was corrected, with the help of the therapist who made the original mistake, later on. In my case it made a difference to get it right, especially as to meds being prescribed.
